The Final Edition
''The Final Edition'' is a 1932 American crime drama film directed by Howard Higgin and starring Pat O'Brien, Mae Clark and Morgan Wallace. Made by Columbia Pictures, it is based on a story by Roy Chanslor.Langman p.127 Synopsis The squabbling city editor and a hotshot female reporter eventually join forces to try and bring down a major crime syndicate, responsible for the murder of the new police commissioner. Howard Higgin
Howard Higgin (February 15, 1891 - December 16, 1938) was an American writer and director of motion pictures in the 1920s and 1930s. Biography After graduating from the Pratt Institute, Higgin began working at the architectural firm McKim, Mead & White, but his interest in the theater resulted in his designing stages for John Cort and then at the First National Pictures film studio as a property boy. Higgin was production manager on Cecil De Mille's ''Forbidden Fruit'' (1921). Higgin's first directing job was a 1922 comedy for legendary Wallace Reid, '' Rent Free''. Mary Doran
Mary Doran (September 8, 1910 – September 6, 1995) was an American actress. She appeared in more than 80 films from 1927 to 1944. Biography Doran was born in New York and attended public schools there before graduating and going to Columbia University. She left Columbia after three years to pursue a career on stage. She sang and danced in Belle Baker's ''Betsy'' when it was in New York. Later, she performed in Flo Ziegfeld's ''Rio Rita''. Doran's films included ''Broadway Melody'', ''Half a Bride'', and ''The Trial of Mary Dugan''. In 1929, Doran was under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Personal life On August 15, 1931, Doran married Joseph Sherman in San Diego, California. Sherman was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's chief publicity director. Kit Guard
Kit Guard (born Christen Klitgaard May 5, 1894 - July 18, 1961) was a Danish-American actor whose career started in the 1920s. Guard left his birthplace of Hals, Denmark, around the turn of the 20th century, one of five brothers to do so. He moved to San Francisco, and in 1913 he became assistant stage manager and actor at the Alcazar Theatre there. He later acted on stage at the Wigwam Theatre in San Francisco. In World War I, he entertained overseas and later served in the Rainbow Division of the U. S. Army. Guard was a prolific performer, appearing in over 400 films. He appeared with Al Cooke as a comic duo in a number of films from 1923 to 1927. His other film appearances range from ''The Racketeer'' in 1929 to ''The Joker Is Wild'' in 1957, with a number of subsequent uncredited appearances. Harry Strang (December 13, 1892 – April 10, 1972) was an American actor. He appeared in more than 500 films and television shows between 1929 and 1965. On Broadway, Strang appeared in ''The Girl in the Train'' (1910). Primarily a character actor, Strang often appeared in film roles that included clerks in stores, policemen on beats, and soldiers. He also was often seen in two-reel comedies made by RKO Radio Pictures. His work on television included appearances on ''Maverick'', ''One Step Beyond'', and '' Perry Mason''. Harry Franklin "Hal" Price (June 24, 1886 – April 15, 1964) was an American film and stage actor. He appeared in more than 260 films between 1930 and 1952. He is the father of character actress and comedian Lu Leonard. On stage, Price toured for three months with Will Rogers in a production of '' Ah, Wilderness!''. Harry James Holman (March 15, 1862 – May 3, 1947) was an American character actor. He appeared in approximately 130 films between 1923 and 1947. Biography Born in Conway, Missouri, Holman dropped out of school in the ninth grade and began seeking work as an actor. Wallis Clark
Wallis Hensman Clark (2 March 1882 – 14 February 1961) was an English stage and film actor. Biography Clark was born in Bolton, Lancashire, England, the son of William Wallis Clark (1854 - 1930), an engineer. Prior to acting, Clark was an engineer. He began his stage career in Margate, Kent, in 1908. He moved to the United States and acted in numerous plays on the stage, including at the Little Theatre in Philadelphia, for years before moving on to the screen in 1932. He appeared in supporting roles in 136 films between 1931 and 1954. Five of these films won Best Picture: ''It Happened One Night'' (1934), ''Mutiny on the Bounty'' (1935), ''The Great Ziegfeld'' (1936), '' You Can't Take It with You'' (1938), and '' Gone with the Wind'' (1939).
