The Compilation (UTP Album)
''The Compilation'' is a compilation album by UTP, released on October 8, 2002 through Orpheus Records. Background Juvenile had left popular hip hop label Cash Money Records earlier in 2002 after three consecutive top 10 albums to form his own collective UTP. In addition to Juvenile, UTP also featured Wacko, Skip, Corey Cee, Soulja Slim and Young Buck though Corey Cee would leave the group shortly after ''The Compilation''. Most of the songs on the album were performed by the entire group, though some songs were performed by a lone member of the group. Production for the album was handled entirely by Juvenile himself. Reception Gregory McIntosh of Allmusic gave the album 2.5 stars out of a possible of five. In his review he stated "...For the most part, the beats are pretty ordinary, although the collective does pull out some clever hooks like on the anthem "Less Than a Playa," with its drowsy, lurching undercurrent of samples". UTP (group)
UTP was an American rap group composed of New Orleans rappers Juvenile, Wacko and Skip. The group was formed by Juvenile after he left Cash Money Records in 2002 and originally consisted of Juvenile, Wacko, Skip, Corey Cee, Soulja Slim and Young Buck. The group's first release was '' The Compilation'', which was released through Orpheus Records on October 8, 2002. The album featured performances by Young Buck, Soulja Slim, Juvenile, Wacko, Skip and Corey Cee both as a group or by themselves. A second compilation entitled ''Street Stories'' was made in 2003. During the early stages of his career, 50 Cent worked with Young Buck, Skip, and Wacko on multiple songs for his mixtapes including 50 Cent Is the Future. Young Buck would subsequently leave UTP to join 50 Cent's G-Unit. Soulja Slim was murdered November 26, 2003 and Corey Cee later left the group. Southern Hip Hop
Southern hip hop, also known as Southern rap, South Coast hip hop, or dirty south, is a blanket term for a regional genre of American hip hop music that emerged in the Southern United States, especially in Atlanta, New Orleans, Houston, Memphis, and Miami—five cities which constitute the "Southern Network" in rap music. Gangsta Rap
Gangsta rap or gangster rap, initially called reality rap, emerged in the mid- to late 1980s as a controversial hip-hop subgenre whose lyrics assert the culture and values typical of American street gangs and street hustlers. Terius Gray (born March 26, 1975), better known by his stage name Juvenile, is an American rapper best known for his work with Birdman's Cash Money Records in the late 1990s and early 2000s, both solo and as a member of the label's then-flagship group, Hot Boys. Juvenile's career began in the early 1990s as a teenager with bounce music recordings that made him a local star. He released his debut album ''Being Myself'' in 1995. After signing to Cash Money, Juvenile released ''Solja Rags'' in 1997, which included the major local hit "Solja Rag". ''The Beginning of the End...'' is the debut studio album by American hip hop group UTP. It was released on May 18, 2004 through Rap-A-Lot Records. Recording sessions took place at Stone House in Los Angeles, at Studio Center in Miami, and at UTP Studios in New Orleans. Production was handled by Derek "Grizz" Edwards, Slice Tee, Donald "XL" Robertson, Ad Future, and Juvenile. It features guest appearances from Partners-N-Crime, Ms. Tee and Big Zuse. The album peaked at number 122 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number 17 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the United States. The album produced two singles: "Nolia Clap" and "What's Up". Its lead single, "Nolia Clap", made it to number 31 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and number 9 on both Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs. James Adarryl Tapp Jr. (September 9, 1977 – November 26, 2003), better known by his stage name Soulja Slim, was an American rapper and songwriter. He is perhaps best known for featuring on the U.S. number one hit "Slow Motion". Early life James A'Darryl Tapp Jr. was born in New Orleans on September 9, 1977, to James and Linda Tapp. He was raised in the Magnolia Projects in New Orleans and attended Cohen Senior High School before dropping out of school in the 11th grade. David Darnell Brown (born March 15, 1981), best known by his stage name Young Buck, is an American rapper. He heads his own record label, Cashville, and was a member of the former hip hop group G-Unit. Early life Brown was born in Nashville, Tennessee. Around the age of 12, he began rapping. A few years later, he performed for Brian "Baby" Williams, co-founder of Cash Money. Music career Young Buck joined Cash Money in 1997 but left for Juvenile's UTP in 2000. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is a music chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine that ranks R&B and hip hop albums based on sales in the United States and is compiled by Nielsen SoundScan.
