UTP (group)
UTP was an American rap group composed of New Orleans rappers Juvenile, Wacko and Skip. The group was formed by Juvenile after he left Cash Money Records in 2002 and originally consisted of Juvenile, Wacko, Skip, Corey Cee, Soulja Slim and Young Buck. The group's first release was '' The Compilation'', which was released through Orpheus Records on October 8, 2002. The album featured performances by Young Buck, Soulja Slim, Juvenile, Wacko, Skip and Corey Cee both as a group or by themselves. A second compilation entitled ''Street Stories'' was made in 2003. During the early stages of his career, 50 Cent worked with Young Buck, Skip, and Wacko on multiple songs for his mixtapes including 50 Cent Is the Future. Young Buck would subsequently leave UTP to join 50 Cent's G-Unit. Soulja Slim was murdered November 26, 2003 and Corey Cee later left the group. Asylum Records is an American record label, founded in 1971 by David Geffen and partner Elliot Roberts. It was taken over by Warner Communications (now the Warner Music Group) in 1972, and later merged with Elektra Records to become Elektra/Asylum Records. After previous incarnations, it is geared primarily towards hip-hop, along with rock and alternative metal. It is owned and distributed by Warner Music Group. Rap-A-Lot is a hip hop record label co-founded by James Prince and Cliff Blodget in 1986. Smoke-a-Lot Records is a subsidiary. Rap-A-Lot was first distributed by A&M Records with the release of Raheem's 1988 debut ''The Vigilante''. The label was distributed through the 1990s by EMI's Priority Records (1991–1994), Noo Trybe Records (1994-1998), and Virgin Records (1998–2002). In the 2000s, it was distributed by Asylum Records and then Fontana Distribution. On August 22, 2013, Rap-A-Lot announced a distribution deal with RED Distribution. Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums is a music chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine that ranks R&B and hip hop albums based on sales in the United States and is compiled by Nielsen SoundScan. The chart debuted as Hot R&B LPs in the issue dated January 30, 1965 in an effort by the magazine to further expand into the field of rhythm and blues music. It then went through several name changes, being known as Soul LPs in the 1970s and Top Black Albums in the 1980s, before returning to the R&B identification in 1990 and affixing a hip hop designation in 1999 to reflect the latter's growing sales and relationship to R&B during the decade. It is their fourth release overall including the 2002 compilation '' The Compilation'' and 2004 EP ''Nolia Clap'', released on July 24, 2007 through Rap-a-Lot Records. Background The album was released over three years after '' The Beginning of the End''. By the time of the album's release group founder Juvenile had left the group, leaving UTP as a duo consisting of Wacko and Skip. However, Juvenile still contributed verses to four tracks on the album, "Damn Nigga Damn", "Loaded Up", "1st Piece" and "Gang Bang". Nolia Clap (EP)
''Nolia Clap'' is the only extended play by American hip hop group UTP. It was released on November 23, 2004 through Rap-A-Lot Records. Recording sessions took place at Dean's List House Hits in Houston, at Stone House in Los Angeles, at Studio Center in Miami, and at UTP Studios in New Orleans. Production was handled by Derek "Grizz" Edwards, Donald "XL" Robertson, Mike Dean, Slice Tee and Juvenile. It features guest appearances from Kango, Bun B, Earl Hayes, Hot Wright, Red Eye, Slim Thug, T.I. and Z-Ro. After the success of UTP's single "Nolia Clap", Rap-A-Lot released a seven-track EP to capitalize on the single's success. It contained both the original version on "Nolia Clap", a new remix of the song, and a few unreleased tracks that did not make the cut for '' The Beginning of the End...''.
