Terra Nova (oil Field)
Terra Nova is an oil field development project based off the coast of Newfoundland, discovered in 1984 by Petro-Canada. Terra Nova is the first harsh environment development in North America to use a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, ''Terra Nova''. Production from the field began in January 2002 off the coast of Newfoundland, with an expected life of 15–17 years. After stopping production in 2019, the project restructured in 2021, moving to Ferrol, Spain for repairs. Terra Nova is expected to be back in production in Newfoundland at the end of 2022. The oil is produced from Late Jurassic sandstone within the Jeanne d'Arc Formation. The reservoir was deposited as a large braided fluvial system. Petro-Canada is a retail and wholesale marketing brand subsidiary of Suncor Energy. Until 1991, it was a federal Crown corporation (a state-owned enterprise). Sable Offshore Energy Project
The Sable Offshore Energy Project (SOEP) is a consortium based in Halifax, Nova Scotia which explores for and produced natural gas near Sable Island on the edge of the Nova Scotian continental shelf in eastern Canada. SOEP produced between 400 and of natural gas and of natural gas liquids daily until 2019. The first tier was completed in 1999 resulting in the development of the Thebaud, North Triumph, and Venture natural gas fields. The American plaice, American sole or long rough dab (''Hippoglossoides platessoides'') is a North Atlantic flatfish that belongs, along with other right-eyed flounders, to the family Pleuronectidae. Ferrol, Spain
Ferrol () is a city in the Province of A Coruña in Galicia, on the Atlantic coast in north-western Spain, in the vicinity of Strabo's Cape Nerium (modern day Cape Prior). ''Terra Nova'' is a Floating Production Storage and Offloading Vessel (FPSO) for servicing the Terra Nova (oil field), Terra Nova oil and gas field. Since 2019 the vessel has been off-field undergoing a life extension programme, initially at Bull Arm, Bull Arm Fabrication Site, then Navantia, Navantia, El Ferrol. Floating Production Storage And Offloading
A floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit is a floating vessel used by the offshore oil and gas industry for the production and processing of hydrocarbons, and for the storage of oil. An FPSO vessel is designed to receive hydrocarbons produced by itself or from nearby platforms or subsea template, process them, and store oil until it can be offloaded onto a tanker or, less frequently, transported through a pipeline. FPSOs are preferred in frontier offshore regions as they are easy to install, and do not require a local pipeline infrastructure to export oil. FPSOs can be a conversion of an oil tanker (like the '' Seawise Giant'') or can be a vessel built specially for the application. Jeanne D'Arc Basin
The Jeanne d'Arc Basin is an offshore sedimentary basin located about 340 kilometres (~210 miles) to the basin centre, east-southeast of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. This basin formed in response to the large scale plate tectonic forces that ripped apart the super-continent Pangea and also led to sea-floor spreading in the North Atlantic Ocean. This basin is one of a series of rift basins that are located on the broad, shallow promontory of continental crust known as the Grand Banks of Newfoundland off Canada's east coast.
