Telecommunications In Senegal
Telecommunications in Senegal include radio, television, fixed and mobile telephones, and the Internet. In 2012 the country had roughly 338,200 landlines for its 13.0 million inhabitants. A number of cyber cafés are located in the capital, Dakar, and other cities. Regulation Sonatel, Senegal's main telecommunications operator, was privatized in 1997 with France Télécom as the strategic partner. Sonatel continues to dominate the market. Liberalization of some services accompanied privatization. Two companies now provide cellular telephone services, and there is a competitive Internet services market. 2sTV
2sTV is the second television channel of Senegal. It is owned 100% by El hadji Ibrahima Ndiaye, the administrator of the channel. Beginnings In 2003, the first programmes were shown on the UHF23 channel. The station was at first a partnership between the historic television channel of Senegal, Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS) and a private group, "Origine SA". The channel was named: RTS2S. Development The channel showed its independence with a new name: 2sTV. The programmes it showed were more focused on culture, freer, and newer. An international call prefix, international dial-out code or international direct dial code (IDD code) is a trunk prefix that indicates an International call, international phone call. In the dialling sequence, the prefix precedes the country calling code (and, further, the carrier code, if any, and the destination telephone number). Country calling codes or country dial-in codes are telephone number prefixes for reaching telephone subscribers in the networks of the member countries or regions of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
