Tasmanian Football Championship
The Tasmanian soccer championship describes the method of determining the best soccer club in Tasmania, Australia. The championship has been decided using three different formats; a statewide league, a playoff between Northern and Southern league Champions and lastly a statewide finals system with top teams from Northern and Southern leagues. Formats Tasmanian Statewide League The Tasmanian Statewide League was the highest state-level competition in Tasmania prior to being disbanded in 2000. Nationally, it was on par with Australia's other state leagues, below the National Soccer League. It was administered by Soccer Tasmania, now known as Football Federation Tasmania, the state's governing body. The State League began in 1978, and replaced the former system of northern champions playing off against southern champions which had continued since 1910. Sandy Bay FC
Sandy Bay Soccer Club was a football (soccer) club which represented Sandy Bay in the Tasmanian Southern Premier League from 1922 until its demise in 1953. In their 31-year history Sandy Bay established itself as a powerhouse club of Tasmanian football, winning a remarkable seven state championships, and seven southern premierships which still sees them placed fourth on the winners lists of both competitions despite folding over 50 years ago. Their great rivalry with neighbours South Hobart was a feature of Tasmanian football competitions before World War II, and their demise was regretted by all associated with the club. Olympia FC Warriors
Olympia Football Club Warriors, known as Olympia FC Warriors, is a professional association football club based in Hobart, Australia. The club competes in the Southern Championship. The club also fields teams in all junior and youth divisions. Olympia play their home games at Empire Couriers Park, formally known as Warrior Park, in Warrane, Tasmania. History Olympia was formed in 1960 as "The Grecians", and for the most part of their history have been predominantly represented by players of ethnic Greek background. The club headquarters are located at the Hobart Hellenic Club. In 1958 they changed their name to "Olympia" a name which they kept unchanged until 1997, when ethnic affiliations were removed from Australian football. Launceston United Soccer Club, is a semi-professional soccer club which represents the city of Launceston, Tasmania, Launceston in the Northern Championship (Tasmania). It should not be mistaken with the fellow Launceston team, Launceston City FC, Launceston City. The club fields teams in all junior NTJSA (Northern Tasmanian Junior Soccer Association) divisions. The senior club consists of the Senior Men's Northern Championship team (first team), Women's Super League Team, Men's Northern Championship League 1 reserve team, Men's Northern Championship Under 18's team, Northern Championship League 2 team (social League) as well as women's teams. Ulverstone FC
Ulverstone Soccer Club, is a soccer club which represents Ulverstone in the Tasmanian Northern Championship. The club also fields teams in all junior divisions, as well as women's teams. Ulverstone play their home games at the Ulverstone Show grounds, in Ulverstone, Tasmania. Ulverstone's only brief period of glory came when they won back-to-back Northern Premierships in 1994, and 1995, local twins Shaun and Adam Conkie who both played with Ulverstone in this period were recruited to the Morwell Falcons in the National Soccer League in 1996. Hobart Rangers
Hobart Rangers Soccer Club was an Australian soccer club which was based in Hobart, Tasmania. It was established in 1958 out of the old Hydro SC, that played in Tasmanian Division 2 South from 1954 until 1957. The Hydro team was re-branded for the 1958 season, but only lasted for nine seasons due to lack of support. During their short history, the Rangers manage to win both the State Championship and Southern Premiership in 1962. The team qualified for participation in the Australia Cup in 1963. At the end of the 1967 season, Hobart Rangers merged with Caledonians. History Prior to their rebranding as Hobart Rangers, staff of the Drawing Office of the HEC had entered a team in the Southern Division 2 League under the name of "Hydro" from 1954 until 1957. Southern Football Club is a football club from Kingston, Tasmania, Australia. They compete in the Southern Championship of the Football Federation Tasmania. The club was formed in 2009 by the merger of two existing clubs, Kingston Cannons and Christian United. History Rapid FC Rapid FC was founded in 1958. Rapid was highly successful during its life winning the State Championship 4 times, and the Southern Premiership 5 times. For a brief period in the 1980s, due to sponsorship reasons, they were known as Rapid-Wrest Point, before switching back. They played their final match in 1996, being relegated in the process to the Southern League 2. The name was changed and the club reformed as Kingston Cannons. Launceston City FC
Launceston City Football Club is an Australian soccer club based in Launceston, Tasmania. The club was founded in 1957 and currently participating in the Tasmanian NPL Tasmania since 2013, run by the governing body Football Federation Tasmania. The club has over 100 registered players across senior, women and social leagues. The junior club was briefly called "Westside Devils Soccer Club" from 1998 to 2016 and has since changed to Launceston City Devils. Patons and Baldwins was a leading British manufacturer of knitting yarn. It was an original constituent of the FT 30 index of leading companies on the London Stock Exchange. Early history The business began as two separate companies: J & J Baldwin and Partners, founded in the late 1770s by James Baldwin of Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, and John Paton Son and Co., founded in 1814 by John Paton of Alloa, Scotland. Both men had formed their businesses using the spinning mule developed by Samuel Crompton. They mainly produced yarns for commercial knitting machines. Metro Claremont
Metro FC (formerly Metro Claremont Football Club) is a football club formed in 1941 in the northern suburb of Claremont, Hobart, Tasmania. They play at North Chigwell Oval. It has a range of teams for all ages and genders playing in competitions run by the Football Federation Tasmania. Its teams range from under 7s right through to seniors. The teams' colours are yellow and blue. Metro were relegated to the Southern Division 1 competition in 2008 and have placed 2nd in all but 2 seasons. In 2010 Metro narrowly missed out on promotion to the Southern Tasmanian Premier League, that point the highest league on offer in Tasmania coming second behind Beachside with only one spot for promotion on offer.
