Tancheng, Pingtan County
Tancheng () is the seat of Pingtan County, in Fuzhou, Fujian, China (PRC) seating its executive, legislature, Basic People's Court, judiciary, Chinese Communist Party and Public Security Bureau, PSB branches. It is located on Haitan Island. History In 1961, Tancheng Commune () was established. In 1980, Chengguan Town () was established, which was renamed Tancheng Town in 1982. On March 29, 2013, a woman surnamed Wen in Tancheng lost 305,000 RMB to someone pretending to be her brother on QQ. On April 15, 2013, Chen Shixiong was appointed town-level Chinese Communist Party (CCP) secretary of Tancheng at the sixth plenary session of the 12th CCP Pingtan Committee. On August 8–9, 2015, Typhoon Soudelor brought winds measured at 36.3 meters per second in Tancheng, the highest in downtown Pingtan since 1971. Typhoon Megi (2016)
Typhoon Megi (), known in the Philippines as Typhoon Helen, was a large and powerful tropical cyclone which affected Taiwan and eastern China in late September 2016. It is the seventeenth named storm and the seventh typhoon of the annual typhoon season. Meteorological history A tropical disturbance formed northeast of Pohnpei on September 19. Two days later, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) upgraded the low-pressure area to a tropical depression early on September 21, and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) also issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert shortly after that; however, the low-level circulation center (LLCC) of that disorganized system was exposed with fragmented convection. Typhoon Soudelor
Typhoon Soudelor, known in the Philippines as Typhoon Hanna, was the third most intense tropical cyclone worldwide in 2015 after Hurricane Patricia and Cyclone Pam as well as the strongest tropical cyclone of the 2015 Pacific typhoon season. Soudelor had severe impacts in the Northern Mariana Islands, Taiwan, and eastern China, resulting in 40 confirmed fatalities. Lesser effects were felt in Japan, South Korea and the Philippines. The thirteenth named storm of the annual typhoon season, Soudelor formed as a tropical depression near Pohnpei on July 29. The system strengthened slowly at first before entering a period of rapid intensification on August 2. Soudelor made landfall on Saipan later that day, causing extensive damage. The Taiwan Strait is a -wide strait separating the island of Taiwan and continental Asia. The strait is part of the South China Sea and connects to the East China Sea to the north. Haitan Island
Pingtan Island or Haitan Island is an island of Fuzhou off the east coast of mainland Asia in Pingtan County, Fujian Province, China (PRC), south of the complex estuary of the Min River. It is the largest island in Fujian and the fifth-largest island administered by the People's Republic of China. History In June 1955, there was considerable road and military construction around Haitan Island, including roads leading to possible artillery positions on the mainland. These positions might have been used to protect the Haitan Strait, which was thought of as a favorable staging area for amphibious operations against the Matsu Islands.
