The Staffordshire Rugby Union is the governing body for the sport of rugby union in the county of Staffordshire in England. The union is the constituent body of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) for Staffordshire, and administers and organises rugby union clubs and competitions in the county. It also administers the Staffordshire county rugby representative teams. Tamworth (, ) is a market town and borough in Staffordshire, England, north-east of Birmingham. The town borders North Warwickshire to the east and north, Lichfield to the north, south-west and west. Midlands 2 West (North) is a level 7 English Rugby Union league and level 2 of the Midlands League, made up of clubs from the northern part of the West Midlands region including Shropshire, Staffordshire, parts of Birmingham and the West Midlands and occasionally Cheshire, with home and away matches played throughout the season. When this division began in 1992 it was known as Midlands West 1, until it was split into two regional divisions called Midlands 3 West (North) and Midlands 3 West (South) ahead of the 2000–01 season. Further restructuring of the Midlands leagues ahead of the 2009–10 season, lead to the current name of Midlands 2 West (North). Promoted teams tend to move up to Midlands 1 West with the league champions going up automatically and the runners up having to play a playoff against the runners up from Midlands 2 West (South) for their place. Staffordshire Intermediate Cup
The Staffordshire Intermediate Cup is an annual rugby union knock-out club competition organized by the Staffordshire Rugby Union. It was first introduced during the 2001–02 season, with the inaugural winners being Burntwood. It is the second most important rugby union cup competition in Staffordshire, behind the Staffordshire Senior Cup but ahead of the Staffordshire Owen Cup. The Intermediate Cup is open to club sides based in Staffordshire and parts of the West Midlands typically playing in tier 7 (Midlands 2 West (North)) and tier 8 (Midlands 3 West (North)) of the English rugby union system. The current format is a knock-out competition with a first round, semi finals and a final played at a neutral ground in April–May.
