Talwar (surname)
Talwar is an Indian ( Khatri) surname that is found among the Sikhs and Hindus of Punjab. There are also some Muslim clans of Talwars. It is derived from the word "talvar" meaning sword. Talwar is a surname found among Barah-Ghar/Bahri sub-caste of the Khatris which also includes the clans of Chopra, Dhawan, Kakkar, Kapoor, Khanna, Mehra, Malhotra, Sehgal, Seth, Tandon, and Vohra. Before 1947, Talwars were located in modern-day Pakistan, particularly western Punjab (Jhelum, Rawalpindi) and North-West Frontier Province (Peshawar, Hazara). Some Talwars were also found in the neighborhoods of Jhang city. A neighborhood in Rawalpindi called "Talwar'an da bazaar" is named after the Talwar clan. Some Talwars also trace their ancestry from Afghanistan. Khatri
Khatri is a caste of the Indian subcontinent that is predominantly found in India, but also in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In the subcontinent, they were mostly engaged in mercantilistic professions such as banking and trade, they were the dominant commerical & financial administration class of Late-Medieval India some in Punjab often belonged to hereditary agriculturalist land-holding lineages, others were engaged in artisanal occupations such as silk production and weaving while some were scribes learned in Sanskrit and Persian too During the British colonial era, they also served as lawyers and engaged in administrative jobs in the colonial bureaucracy. Bhagat Ram Talwar
Bhagat Ram Talwar (1908—1983), a Hindu Pathan from the Northwest Province of British India, was the only quintuple spy of World War II. He played an active role in India's freedom struggle. Also known by the alias ''Silver'', he was a freedom fighter and a peasant leader from the North-West Frontier Province in present-day Pakistan. While some authors believe his ancestors were of Punjabi descent, it is known that he was a Hindu Khatri, and identified as a Hindu Pathan. He was an agent and prominent figure of the Kirti Kisan Party. Amar Talwar
Amar Talwar (born 21 December 1949) is an Indian artist and Bollywood actor. He appeared in the historic television series '' Shanti'', in which he played Raj 'G.J.' Singh. Born to a Sikh family on 21 December 1949, Talwar was educated at the Lawrence School, Sanawar, along with his brother Rana Talwar. Before becoming an actor Talwar worked as a photojournalist. He is originally from Chandigarh but moved to Delhi for work. He joined UNICEF as photo journalist for the Girl Child Division and also for the Ford Foundation, amongst others. Aarushi Talwar
The 2008 Noida double murder case refers to the unsolved murders of 13-year-old girl Aarushi Talwar and 45-year-old man Hemraj Banjade, a live-in domestic worker employed by her family. The two were killed on the night of 15–16 May 2008 at Aarushi's home in Noida, India. The case aroused public interest as a whodunit story, and received heavy media coverage. The sensational media coverage, which included salacious allegations against Aarushi and the suspects, was criticised by many as a trial by media. When Aarushi's body was discovered in her bedroom on 16 May, Hemraj was missing at the time, and was considered the main suspect.
