''Tales of the City'' (formally ''Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City'') is a 1993 television miniseries based on the first of the '' Tales of the City'' series of novels by Armistead Maupin. To date, the first three books have been adapted into television miniseries; the first, ''Tales of the City'', was produced by the UK's Channel 4 and was first screened in the UK in 1993, then shown on PBS in the US in January 1994. Channel 4 eventually teamed up with the American cable network Showtime to produce the sequel, ''More Tales of the City'', which premiered in the US and UK in 1998. The third installment of the series, ''Further Tales of the City'', was produced by Showtime (without Channel 4) and was originally aired in the US on Showtime in May 2001. ''Tales of the City'' is a series of nine novels written by American author Armistead Maupin from 1978 to 2014, depicting the life of a group of friends in San Francisco, many of whom are LGBT. The stories from ''Tales'' were originally serialized prior to their novelization, with the first four titles appearing as regular installments in the ''San Francisco Chronicle'', while the fifth appeared in the ''San Francisco Examiner''. The remaining titles were never serialized, but were instead originally written as novels. ''Tales of the City'' has been compared to similar serial novels that ran in other city newspapers, such as '' The Serial'' (1976; Marin County), ''Tangled Lives'' (Boston), ''Bagtime'' (Chicago), and ''Federal Triangle'' (Washington, D.C.). Alan Poul
Alan Mark Poul (born May 1, 1954) is an American film and television producer and director. Career Poul served as executive producer for the HBO original series, '' Six Feet Under'', on which he made his directing debut. He directed four episodes of the series from seasons two through five. He later directed the pilot for CBS' series ''Swingtown'', of which he directed a total of four episodes. Pixelation
In computer graphics, pixelation (or pixellation in British English) is caused by displaying a bitmap or a section of a bitmap at such a large size that individual pixels, small single-colored square display elements that comprise the bitmap, are visible. Such an image is said to be pixelated ( pixellated in the UK). Early graphical applications such as video games ran at very low resolutions with a small number of colors, resulting in easily visible pixels. The resulting sharp edges gave curved objects and diagonal lines an unnatural appearance. However, when the number of available colors increased to 256, it was possible to gainfully employ anti-aliasing to smooth the appearance of low-resolution objects, not eliminating pixelation but making it less jarring to the eye. Propaganda Films was an American music video and film production company founded in 1986 by producers Steve Golin and Sigurjón Sighvatsson and directors David Fincher, Nigel Dick, Dominic Sena and Greg Gold.
