Tajik Internal Troops
The Tajik Internal Troops () are the internal security force of Tajikistan, under the Interior Ministry (VKD). They act as the primary reserve force of the Tajik Armed Forces, and are in charge of homeland defence, along with the Tajik Border Troops. The Internal Troops are led by Major General Negmatullo Kurbanov. Background The first Tajik militia was founded on 7 December 1924, when the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs of the Tajik Autonomous Republic was formed. A week later on 14 December, Abdullo Yarmukhamedov was appointed the first People's Commissar for Internal Affairs. On 5 February 1925, 33 NKVD officers were transferred from Tashkent to Dushanbe, where they would be stationed permanently as part of the NKVD division in Dyushambe the next day. Dushanbe
Dushanbe ( tg, Душанбе, ; ; russian: Душанбе) is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan. , Dushanbe had a population of 863,400 and that population was largely Tajik. Until 1929, the city was known in Russian as Dyushambe (russian: Дюшамбе, ''Dyushambe''), and from 1929 to 1961 as Stalinabad ( tg, Сталинобод, Stalinobod), after Joseph Stalin. Ghaffor Mirzoyev
Ghaffor Mirzoyev (), also known as Gaffor-Sedoy () is a Tajik politician who was the former head of the Drug Control Agency in Tajikistan. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2004 on charges of abuse of power, privatization of government property, drug trafficking and a host of other charges. Biography He was born in Kulyab and by origin belonged to the ruling "Kulyab" clan in the country. His father, a World War II veteran, was one of the first truck drivers in Tajikistan. He himself later was briefly a truck driver, however after graduating from school, he came to the capital and enrolled in the Institute of Physical Education. After the protests Ozodi Square turned violent, he joined the Popular Front of Tajikistan. In 1995, after conciliation procedures, Mirzoyev became the head of the Presidential Guard. Colonel Mahmud Khudoiberdiyev ( Tajik:Маҳмуд Худойбердиев; October 18, 1964 in Qurghonteppa – c. 2001) was a rebel leader in Tajikistan who, while initially an ally of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, became an opposition figure later on in his life. He is a former member of the Central Committee of the Tajik Communist Party and a former major in the Soviet Army. He also served as commander of the Tajik Army's First Brigade. Gulmurod Khalimov
Gulmurod Salimovich Khalimov ( tg, Гулмурод Салимович Ҳалимов) (1975–2017) was a Tajik and Islamist military commander. He was a lieutenant-colonel and commander of the police special forces of the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan until 2015, when he defected to the Islamic State. In September 2016, he was reported to have been appointed as the minister of war of IS in place of Abu Omar al-Shishani; his appointment had not been announced by IS for fears that he might be targeted in airstrikes by the anti-IS coalition. On 8 September 2017, Khalimov was allegedly killed during a Russian airstrike near Deir ez-Zor, Syria. However, the Tajik government, United Nations, and the United States believed that he was still alive by 2019, though his exact fate remained disputed. The president of Tajikistan is the head of state and de facto head of government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The president heads the executive branch of the country's federal government and is the supreme commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Tajikistan. The National Guard (russian: Национальная гвардия Таджикистана; tg, Гвардияи миллии Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон), formerly called the Brigade of Special Mission and Presidential Guard, also called the National Guard, is a service branch of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Tajikistan, under direct command of the President of Tajikistan.
