Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Sŵnami
Sŵnami () are a Welsh indie rock group from Dolgellau, north-west Wales, who sing predominantly in Welsh. They won the Welsh Language Album of the Year prize at the 2016 National Eisteddfod of Wales. Their name is a play on the word 'tsunami' and the Welsh word for sound, "Sŵn", to convey the idea of a wave of sound. Background Sŵnami was formed around the beginning of 2011. The band's lead singer is Bangor University graduate Ifan Davies, who is from outside Llanegryn, Gwynedd. The other members of the band are Ifan Ywain (guitar), Gerwyn Murray ( bass), Lewis Williams (drums), Gruff Jones (synth). They describe their style as "rocky with a bit of synth". The band won the ''Brwydr Y Bandiau'' (Battle of the Bands) at the 2011 National Eisteddfod in Wrexham. Meic Stevens
Meic Stevens (born 13 March 1942) is a Welsh singer-songwriter. Stevens's songs have a mystical, faintly psychedelic flavour, and are mostly sung in his native Welsh language. Still largely unknown outside Wales, he was discovered by DJ Jimmy Savile, who saw him performing in a Manchester folk club in 1965. This led to Stevens recording his first single – with arranger John Paul Jones (later of Led Zeppelin) – for Decca Records that same year, though it sold badly. Early life In 1967 he suffered a nervous breakdown and retreated to his home village of Solva (in Pembrokeshire) to recuperate, and started to write songs in Welsh in a concerted effort to create a distinctive national pop music. Y Niwl are a surf instrumental band from North Wales, formed in 2009. Its members are Alun Evans (guitar), Llyr Pari (drums), Sion Glyn (bass) and Gruff ab Arwel (organ and guitar). The band's name is pronounced ''Uh Nule'' and means 'The Fog' in Welsh. Members of the band have also long played as backing musicians for Gruff Rhys. Geraint Jarman (born 1950 in Denbigh) is a Welsh musician, poet and television producer whose career dates back to the early years of Welsh popular music. Elin Fflur Llewelyn Harvey (''née'' Jones; born 26 July 1984), known professionally as Elin Fflur, is a Welsh singer-songwriter, television and radio presenter. Early life Fflur was born in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll, Anglesey and was the oldest of three children of Gerallt and Nêst Jones. She was educated at Ysgol David Hughes secondary school in the town of Menai Bridge, and later at Bangor University. Fflur began taking part in local Eisteddfodau from the age of three and became a familiar name in National Eisteddfodau thereafter. She later studied criminology at university, but left after her first year. Bryn Fôn (born 27 August 1954) is a Welsh actor and singer-songwriter. He also became the first ever artist to play live on BBC Radio Cymru in 1977. Biography Bryn Fôn was born in Llanllyfni, Caernarfonshire. He attended Ysgol Gynradd Llanllyfni and Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle before going on to study physical exercise and environmental studies at college.
