TGIF (TV Programming Block)
''TGIF'' was an American prime time television programming block that has aired on ABC at various points since the late 1980s. The name comes from the initials of the popular phrase " Thank God It's Friday"; however, the stars of the lineup touted the initialism meaning "Thank Goodness It's Funny." In its various incarnations, the block mainly featured situation comedies aimed at a family audience, and served as a lead-in to the long-running newsmagazine ''20/20'' (which has been part of ABC's Friday night schedule since September 1987, two years prior to the original launch of ''TGIF''). The block initially premiered on September 22, 1989, marking one of the first attempts by a major network to brand a programming block (a concept that was concurrently becoming popular among cable networks at the time of its inception), with the goal of encouraging young viewers to watch the entire lineup, instead of just a particular show. The "''TGIF''" block dominated the ratings in the 18â ...

Last Friday Night (T
"Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" is a song by American singer Katy Perry from her third studio album, '' Teenage Dream''. The song was produced by Dr. Luke and Max Martin, who also co-wrote the song with Perry and Bonnie McKee. Perry stated that she was inspired to write the track after a night of wild partying and streaking. It was released as the album's fifth single on June 6, 2011, by Capitol Records, with a remix featuring American rapper Missy Elliott released to US radio stations and digital retailers on August 8, 2011; this version was included in '' Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection'' edition. It is a dance-pop song with lyrics about drunken fun and debauchery. Some of the risqué lyrics are often censored in radio versions of the song. The song had chart success worldwide, reaching number one in Canada, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and has attained top-ten positions in Austria, Ireland, Italy, and Poland. When it topped the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, Perry became ...

Feminist Sweepstakes
''Feminist Sweepstakes'' is the second studio album by American dance-punk band Le Tigre. It was released on October 16, 2001 by record label Mr. Lady. ''Feminist Sweepstakes'' is Le Tigre's first album to feature JD Samson as a member of the band. She had previously worked with the band as a roadie and the operator of former member Sadie Benning's slide show during live performances in support of their first record. Background The album title "Feminist Sweepstakes" was explained by JD Samson:"The idea came to us when pondering the idea of what a feminist Easter basket may look like. We began planning a basket of goodies that would be a prize that could be won by an unsuspecting record buyer. Soon enough, after bouncing the word sweepstakes around, we looked up 'sweepstakes' in the dictionary and there was instant gratification. A sweepstakes is a contest in which the members of the contest put together their own (be it money or objects, etc.) in order to come out with a large ...

Tgif (program)
Tgif (pronounced t-g-i-f) is an Xlib-based interactive 2-D drawing tool (using vector graphics) under X11 on Linux and most UNIX platforms (including Mac OS X and cygwin on Windows). It was developed since 1990 and is free software released under the QPL license. Quirks Because Tgif was developed long before a standard way for drawing programs to work, one might find it unfamiliar to use in a number of ways: *Although Tgif mention point sizes, it uses a unit that is 1/128 of an inch for point sizes. *While there is an option to display font sizes in points, the sizes are still subject to rounding to the nearest 1/128". *Unlike modern drawing programs, Tgif uses spline curves instead of Bézier curves. *Also unlike modern drawing programs, Tgif does not allow the user to select a colour from a color wheel or through controls that allow the user to adjust colour values. Instead, Tgif provides a list with a short list of colours. If the user wishes to use a colour that is not in t ...

TGIF1
Homeobox protein TGIF1 is a protein that, in humans, is encoded by the ''TGIF1'' gene. Alternative splicing has been observed at this locus and eight variants, encoding four distinct isoforms, are described. Function The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the three-amino acid loop extension (TALE) superclass of atypical homeodomains. TALE homeobox proteins are highly conserved transcription regulators. This particular homeodomain binds to a previously characterized retinoid X receptor responsive element from the cellular retinol-binding protein II promoter. In addition to its role in inhibiting 9-cis-retinoic acid-dependent RXR alpha transcription activation of the retinoic acid responsive element, the protein is an active transcriptional co-repressor of SMAD2 and may participate in the transmission of nuclear signals during development and in the adult. Clinical significance Mutations in this gene are associated with holoprosencephaly type 4, which is a structural ...

TGIF2
Homeobox protein TGIF2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''TGIF2'' gene. The protein encoded by this gene is a DNA-binding homeobox protein and a transcriptional repressor. The encoded protein appears to repress transcription by recruiting histone deacetylases to TGF beta-responsive genes. This gene is amplified and overexpressed in some ovarian cancers, and mutations in this gene can cause holoprosencephaly Holoprosencephaly (HPE) is a cephalic disorder in which the prosencephalon (the forebrain of the embryo) fails to develop into two hemispheres, typically occurring between the 18th and 28th day of gestation.
