Türkmeneli TV
Türkmeneli Televizyonu, or simply Türkmeneli TV, is a television station in Iraq which broadcasts the interests of the Iraqi Turkmen community. It is available on two satellites: Turksat and Nilesat, and broadcasts in the Turkish and Arabic languages. The channel produces a variety of programmes, such as news, documentaries on Iraqi Turkmen history (particularly Ottoman history), language, politics, and music. Based in Kirkuk, Türkmeneli TV started its test broadcast in April 2004 and its actual broadcast in July 2004. By 2010, Türkmeneli TV opened another studio in Baghdad. In 2008, Türkmeneli TV signed a protocol with the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT), allowing the station to broadcast sequences and music programs from TRT. Moreover, Türkmeneli TV has also signed agreements with other Turkish channels, such as with TGRT and ATV, and the Northern Cyprus broadcaster Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu (BRT) to share documentaries. Kirkuk Governorate ( ar, محافظة كركوك, Muḥāfaẓat Karkūk, ku, پارێزگای کەرکووک, Parêzgeha Kerkûkê/Parêzgayi Kerkûk, tr, Kerkük ili) or Kirkuk Province is a governorate in northern Iraq. Fox is one of the leading free to air TV networks broadcasting in Turkey. Since July 2012, Fox TV broadcasts in 16:9. History The channel was originally TGRT (acronym in turkish as: 'Türkiye Gazetesi Radyo Televizyonu'; ''Turkey Newspaper Radio Television'') and began broadcasting on April 23, 1993, under İhlas Holding. Iraq was home to the first television station in the Middle East, which began during the 1950s. As part of a plan to help Iraq modernize, English telecommunications company Pye Limited built and commissioned a television broadcast station in the capital city of Baghdad. Following the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, the Iraqi state media collapsed. In June 2004, a Communications and Media Commission was set up to approve and grant license for all the country's media. Turkmeneli, also known as Turkmenland, and historically as Turcomania, ( tr, Türkmeneli, lit=Land of the Turkmens) is a political term used to define the vast swath of territory in which the Iraqi Turkmens historically have had a dominant population. The term incorporates the Iraqi Turkmen/Turkoman homelands running from Iraq's border with Turkey and Syria and diagonally down the country to the border with Iran. In particular, the Turkmen/Turkoman consider the capital of Turkmeneli to be disputed city of Kirkuk and its boundaries also include Tal Afar, Mosul (second largest city in Iraq), Erbil (capital of Kurdistan Region), Mandali, and Tuz Khurmatu. Bayrak Radio and Television Corporation ( tr, Bayrak Radyo Televizyon Kurumu; BRT), is the official radio and television broadcasting corporation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
