Türk Kadınlar Birliği
Türk Kadınlar Birliği (Turkish Women's Union) was a women's organization in Turkey, founded in 1924. It was the main women's suffrage organization in Turkey. It played a significant part in the history of the Turkish women's movement. History In 1923, after the foundation of the Turkish Republic, the Women's People Party was founded by Nezihe Muhiddin. However, the party could not be registered, because women's suffrage had not been provided for in the new state. In response, Nezihe Muhiddin founded the Türk Kadınlar Birliği to work for the introduction of women's suffrage. President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was willing to meet most of the demands of the Turkish women's movement, and did so with three major reforms: by inducting women in the state education system along with men; by introducing the Swiss Civil Code of 1926, giving Turkish women the same rights as Swiss women; and finally by introducing women's suffrage in 1935. Nezihe Muhiddin
Nezihe Muhiddin Tepedelengil (1889 – 10 February 1958) was a Turkish women's rights activist, suffragette, journalist, writer and political leader. In the 20th century Ottoman Empire, Nezihe Muhiddin was a pioneer of the women's movement who fought to ensure the recognition of women's political rights after declaration of republican regime. She became one of leading names of the First Wave Republican feminists. Even before the establishment of the Republican People's Party, Nezihe Muhiddin completed the formation of Women's People's Party (KHF) in 1923 and became the founder of the first political party in Turkey. She also served as a president of the Women's Union between 1924-1927 and helped the founding process of the journal named ''Turk Kadin Yolu''. Women's People Party
Women's People Party ( tr, Kadınlar Halk Fırkası) was one of the political party initiatives in Turkey. It was founded before the Republican People's Party under the leadership of Nezihe Muhiddin. Establishment and Activities When the republic was declared in 1923, Nezihe Muhiddin and thirteen women decided to gather a women's committee for women's rights. The party demanded suffrage for women, based on the argument that women had contributed their share to the victory over the Greek enemy and other occupiers of Anatolia. The International Alliance of Women (IAW; french: Alliance Internationale des Femmes, AIF) is an international non-governmental organization that works to promote women's rights and gender equality. Latife Bekir Çeyrekbaşı (1901-1952) (or with the surname given to her by Ataturk, Latife Işıkdoğdu) was a Turkish educator, politician, suffragist and women's rights activist. Latife Bekir, one of the leading figures of the feminist movement in Turkey in the first half of the 20th century, was a member of the founding and management team of Women's People Party, founded in 1923, and its successor Türk Kadınlar Birliği.
