Tønsbergfjorden
Tønsbergfjorden is a fjord in Vestfold county, Norway. The long fjord runs between the mainland ( Sandefjord Municipality) and the islands of Tjøme and Nøtterøy (Færder Municipality). The fjord has a number of islands located within it including Veierland, Hui, Langø, Natholmen, and the Stauper islands. The fjord starts out with a width of about and as it heads northwards, it narrows considerably, at one point the fjord is only across. The city of Tønsberg is located at the northern end of the fjord. There is a small canal that runs through Tønsberg and it connects the northern end of the fjord to the Ytre Oslofjord to the east. The southern end of the fjord is where the mouth is, emptying into the Ytre Oslofjord. The mouth lies between Verdens Ende on the east side and the Østerøya peninsula in the west. Nøtterøy (island)
Nøtterøy is the largest island in Vestfold county, Norway. The island is mostly located in Færder Municipality, but a small area on the far northern shore belongs to Tønsberg Municipality. The island is between the Ytre Oslofjord (to the east) and the Tønsbergfjorden (to the west). Most of the northern part of the island is considered part of the city of Tønsberg metropolitan area which spans parts of Tønsberg and Færder municipalities. In the southern part of the island, there are three larger urban villages: Glomstein on the west coast, Kjøpmannskjær on the south coast, and Årøysund on the east coast. Historically, the island was part of the old Nøtterøy Municipality which existed from 1838 until 1 January 2018 when it became part of Færder Municipality. Tjøme (island)
Tjøme is an island in Færder Municipality in Vestfold county, Norway. The island lies immediately south of the large island of Nøtterøy, between the Ytre Oslofjord (to the east) and the Tønsbergfjorden (to the west). The smaller island of Veierland lies west of the island and Hvasser lies to the east. The island of Tjøme is connected to the islands of Nøtterøy and Hvasser by bridges and the island of Nøtterøy is connected to the mainland by the Tønsberg Canal Bridge. The island was part of Tjøme Municipality from 1838 until 2018 when it became part of the newly-created Færder Municipality. Tønsberg (town)
Tønsberg , historically Tunsberg, is a city and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, eastern Norway, located around south-southwest of Oslo on the western coast of the Oslofjord near its mouth onto the Skagerrak. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Tønsberg. The city is the most populous metropolis in the district of Vestfold with a population of 52,419 in 2019. The municipality has a population of 56,293 and covers an area of in 2020. Tønsberg also serves as the seat for the County Governor of Vestfold og Telemark. Vestfold
Vestfold is a traditional region, a former county and a current electoral district in Eastern Norway. In 2020 the county became part of the much larger county of Vestfold og Telemark. Located on the western shore of the Oslofjord, it bordered the previous Buskerud and Telemark counties. The county administration was located in Tønsberg, Norway's oldest city, and the largest city is Sandefjord. With the exception of the city-county of Oslo, Vestfold was the smallest county in Norway by area. Vestfold was the only county in which all municipalities had declared Bokmål to be their sole official written form of the Norwegian language. Østerøya
Østerøya (East Island) is one of two peninsulas outside Sandefjord, Norway. It borders in west to the Mefjord and east to the Tønsbergfjord. Tønsberg Barrel is located on the southern end of the peninsula. Tønsberg Barrel is an old beacon mentioned in ''Sverris saga''. It has been described as one of the most beautiful sites in Sandefjord. East Island lies between the Tønsbergfjord and Mefjord. It has a large number of beaches, campgrounds, recreational areas, and vacation homes. The peninsula has a length of 10 km, and is between 1 and 2 km in width. It was previously known as Yxnøy, a name which now is used for East Island’s southernmost point. Canal
Canals or artificial waterways are waterways or engineered channels built for drainage management (e.g. flood control and irrigation) or for conveyancing water transport vehicles (e.g. water taxi). They carry free, calm surface flow under atmospheric pressure, and can be thought of as artificial rivers. Kunnskapsforlaget () is a Norwegian publishing company based in Oslo. Kunnskapsforlaget was established in 1975, as a partnership between H. Aschehoug & Co. (W. Nygaard) and Gyldendal Norsk Forlag.
