Tô Lâm (; born 10 July 1957) is a Vietnamese politician and former police officer who has served as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) since August 2024 and the 13th president of Vietnam from May 2024 to October 2024. In his capacity as general secretary, he is the Supreme leader, most powerful person in Vietnam's Politics of Vietnam, political system. A career officer in the Vietnam People's Public Security, People's Public Security Forces for over 40 years, Lâm previously served as Minister of Public Security (Vietnam), Minister of Public Security from 2016 until his May 2024 Vietnamese presidential election, election to the presidency in 2024. He also served as the permanent Member of the Secretariat since May 2024 to October 2024 and as director of the general department of politics of the People's Army of Vietnam from April 2016 to June 2024. Communist Party Of Vietnam
The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) is the founding and sole legal party of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Founded in 1930 by Hồ Chí Minh, the CPV became the ruling party of North Vietnam in 1954 and then all of Vietnam after the collapse of the South Vietnamese government following the Fall of Saigon in 1975.
