Mirzo Tursunzoda
Mirzo Tursunzoda ( tg, Мирзо Турсунзода, 2 May 1911 — 24 September 1977) was an important Tajikistani and Soviet poet and a prominent political figure, full member (academician) of the Tajik Academy of Sciences, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan, a member of the Union of Soviet Writers. Today Tursunzoda has been elevated to the level of Hero of Tajikistan. Tursunzoda's face appears on the front of the one Somoni note. The town of Tursunzoda (formerly Regar) is named in his honor. Dushanbe's Memorial and Literature Museum was founded in 1981 in honor of Tursunzoda's 70th anniversary. Dushanbe ( tg, Душанбе, ; ; russian: Душанбе) is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan. , Dushanbe had a population of 863,400 and that population was largely Tajik. Regar-TadAZ Tursunzoda (Tajiki: Регар-ТадАЗ Турсунзода клуби футболи), ( fa, باشگاه فوتبال ریگر-تداز تورسونزاده), is a Tajik professional football club based in Tursunzoda, that currently play in the top division. Regar-TadAZ have dominated football in Tajikistan since the turn of the 21st century. They won the 2005 edition of the AFC President's Cup, beating Dordoi-Dynamo Naryn of Kyrgyzstan 3–0. Nurek Dam
The Nurek Dam (russian: Нурекская ГЭС; Tajik: Нерӯгоҳи обии Норак, ''Nerūgohi obii Norak'', Tajik for Nurek Hydro-electric Station) is an earth-fill embankment dam on the Vakhsh River in Tajikistan. Its primary purpose is hydroelectric power generation and its power station has an installed capacity of 3,015 MW. Construction of the dam began in 1961 and the power station's first generator was commissioned in 1972. The last generator was commissioned in 1979 and the entire project was completed in 1980 when Tajikistan was still a republic within the Soviet Union, becoming the tallest dam in the world at the time.
