Turkish Mathematical Society
The Turkish Mathematical Society ( tr, Türk Matematik Derneği, TMD) is a Turkish organization dedicated to the development of mathematics in Turkey. Its members are individual mathematicians living in Turkey or Turkish mathematicians living abroad. Goals The Society seeks to serve mathematicians particularly in universities, research institutes and other forms of higher education. Nazim Terzioglu
Subahdar, also known as Nazim or in English as a "Subah", was one of the designations of a governor of a Subah (province) during the Khalji dynasty of Bengal, Mamluk dynasty (Delhi), Khalji dynasty, Tughlaq dynasty, Mughal era ( of India who was alternately designated as Sahib-i-Subah or Nazim. The word, ''Subahdar'' is of Persian origin. Attila Aşkar (born September 4, 1943) is a Turkish civil engineer, scientist and former president of the Koç University in Rumelifeneri, Istanbul, Turkey during 2001 and 2009. Life Attila Aşkar was born on September 4, 1943 in Bolvadin, Afyonkarahisar Province-Turkey. He is the son of Kemal and Nüzhet Aşkar, and was married to ''Elsie Vance,'' the daughter of former Secretary of State Cyrus R. Vance on August 30, 1998. Betül Tanbay
Betül Tanbay (born 1960) is a Turkish mathematician, scientist and professor of mathematics at the Boğaziçi University in Istanbul, Turkey and the first woman president of the Turkish Mathematical Society between 2010 and 2016. Education Betül Tanbay was born in Istanbul and raised in Ankara until 1977. She graduated from the Lycée Janson de Sailly, Paris, France in 1978. She received her Licence en Mathématiques from Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg in 1982, and her PhD in Mathematics under the supervision of Robert Solovay at the University of California, Berkeley in the United States in 1989. Ali Ulger is a Turkish mathematician who works in the field of functional analysis. He got his PhD from University of Besançon in 1972. Between 1978 and 1996, he worked at Boğaziçi University. Tosun Terzioğlu
Tosun Terzioğlu (13 March 1942 − 23 February 2016) was a Turkish mathematician and academic administrator. Terzioğlu was born in İstanbul, Turkey. He graduated from Robert College in 1961. He studied mathematics at Newcastle University, UK and received his Bachelor of Science, BS in 1965. He earned his PhD from Goethe University Frankfurt, Frankfurt University in Germany in 1968. Between 1968-1994, he taught at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara. He worked as a visiting professor at the University of Michigan between 1975–1976 and University of Wuppertal in Germany between 1982-1983. He had been the president of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) between 1992-1997. He was later the president of Sabancı University, Istanbul. Cahit Arf
Cahit Arf (; 24 October 1910 – 26 December 1997) was a Turkish mathematician. He is known for the Arf invariant of a quadratic form in characteristic 2 (applied in knot theory and surgery theory) in topology, the Hasse–Arf theorem in ramification theory, Arf semigroups and Arf rings. Biography Cahit Arf was born on 11 October 1910 in Selanik (Thessaloniki), which was then a part of the Ottoman Empire. His family migrated to Istanbul with the outbreak of the Balkan War in 1912. The family finally settled in İzmir where Cahit Arf received his primary education. Upon receiving a scholarship from the Turkish Ministry of Education he continued his education in Paris and graduated from École Normale Supérieure.
