Tsung-Che Cheng
Cheng Tsung-che (; born July 26, 2001) is a Taiwanese baseball infielder in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Career Cheng, a native of Pingtung County, Taiwan, signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Pu-Men High School as an international free agent on July 2, 2019, for a signing bonus of $380,000. Shortly after signing, he competed in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup. Cheng made his professional debut with the Florida Complex League Pirates in 2021, and played second base, third base, and shortstop throughout the season. After the 2021 minor league season ended, Cheng played winter ball with the Caimanes de Barranquilla, winning the 2022 Caribbean Series. Cheng spent the 2022 Minor League Baseball season with the Bradenton Marauders, playing shortstop more frequently. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field. Bradenton ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Manatee County, Florida, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city's population is 55,698. History Late 18th and early 19th centuries A settlement established by Maroons or escaped slaves named Angola existed in Bradenton's present area starting in the late 1700s and ending in 1821. 2023 World Baseball Classic
The 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), an international professional baseball tournament, is set to be the fifth iteration of the World Baseball Classic. It was originally set for 2021 (as per tradition to hold the event every four years), but was canceled in May 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later announced that qualifications for the Classic would start in September 2022, as agreed by Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). The tournament is being expanded from 16 to 20 national teams, with all teams that participated in the 2017 edition automatically qualifying, plus four additional spots. The Gigantes de Carolina () are a baseball team in the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League (''LBPPR'').
