Gigantes De Carolina (baseball)
The Gigantes de Carolina () are a baseball team in the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League (''LBPPR''). Based in the city of Carolina, Puerto Rico, the ''Gigantes'' play at Roberto Clemente Stadium. There is now an affiliated Association Football, football club, Gigantes de Carolina (football club), Gigantes de Carolina, also playing out of the Roberto Clemente Stadium. Puerto Rico Baseball League On November 18, 2009, the Gigantes defeated the Criollos. After defeating the Indios, the Gigantes gained the league's lead for a brief period of time. On November 20, 2009, the team defeated the Leones, scoring 17 hits. In their next game, the Leones defeated Carolina. On November 29, 2009, the team lost to the Gigantes del Cibao in inter-league action. On December 1, 2009, the Criollos defeated the Gigantes to win their first home game of the season. Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente (LBPRC) is the main professional baseball sports league, league in Puerto Rico; it is colloquially referred to as the Puerto Rican Winter league baseball, Winter League. Carolina barrio-pueblo is a barrio and the administrative center (seat) of Carolina, a municipality of Puerto Rico. Its population in 2010 was 1,201. As was customary in Spain, in Puerto Rico, the municipality has a barrio called ''pueblo'' which contains a central plaza, the municipal buildings (city hall), and a Catholic church. Carolina (; ) is a city and municipality located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico. Roberto Clemente Stadium (Spanish: Estadio Roberto Clemente) is a multi-purpose stadium in Carolina, Puerto Rico. It is currently used mostly for baseball games and is the home of Gigantes de Carolina. The stadium holds 12,500 people and was built in 2000. Carolina Giants are an association football club from Carolina, Puerto Rico. They were formed in 2008 as the football branch of the existing baseball side Gigantes de Carolina. They are founding members of the Puerto Rico Soccer League, the first nationwide football league on the island.
