Tsarukyan Alliance
Tsarukyan Alliance ( hy, «Ծառուկյան» դաշինք; ''Tsarukyan Dashink'') was a liberal political alliance of three political parties in Armenia: Prosperous Armenia, Alliance Party and Mission Party. It was formed on 18 January 2017, before the 2017 Armenian parliamentary election. The leader of the alliance was famous businessman Gagik Tsarukyan. History On 2 April 2017, the alliance participated in the Armenian parliamentary election and won 31 seats out of 105 in the National Assembly. The Armenian National Movement Party announced its support to the alliance, while the Solidarity Party endorsed the alliance. The alliance was officially dissolved prior to the 2018 Armenian parliamentary election. Gagik Tsarukyan
Gagik Tsarukyan ( hy, Գագիկ Ծառուկյան; born 25 November 1956) is an Armenian businessman, politician, and former athlete. Tsarukyan is the founder and leader of the Prosperous Armenia political party. He also owns various large-scale businesses and is believed to be one of the richest men in Armenia. Announcing his departure from politics for a hiatus in February 2015, he announced his return to politics in January 2017, forming the parliamentary Tsarukyan Alliance, an electoral alliance made up of Prosperous Armenia, the Alliance Party and the Mission Party. During the 2018 Armenian parliamentary election, Prosperous Armenia obtained 8.26% of the popular vote, coming in second and becoming the largest opposition party in parliament. Armenian National Movement Party
The Armenian National Movement (ANM) ( hy, Հայկական ազգային շարժում, translit=Hayots’ hamazgayin sharzhum kusakts’ut’yun) is a political party in Armenia. It is led by Ararat Zurabyan, the former Chairman of the Pan-Armenian National Movement and a former member of the Free Democrats. History The Armenian National Movement (ANM) traces its early history to the Pan-Armenian National Movement. The ANM joined the Armenian National Congress political coalition and endorsed Levon Ter-Petrosyan in the run up to the 2008 Armenian presidential election. The ANM, in addition to several other liberal parties, helped to organize protests ahead of the elections. 2018 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 9 December 2018, as none of the parties in the National Assembly were able to put forward and then elect a candidate for Prime Minister in the two-week period following the resignation of incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on 16 October. They were the first elections after the 2018 revolution and the country's first-ever snap elections. The result was a landslide victory for Pashinyan's My Step Alliance, which received 70% of the vote and won 88 of the 132 seats in the National Assembly. The Solidarity Party ( hy, Համերաշխություն կուսակցություն, translit=Hamerashkhut’yun kusakts’ut’yun) is an Armenian political party. History The party is led by Sargis Avetisyan and does not maintain any representation within the National Assembly. Currently, the party acts as an extra-parliamentary force. Prior to the 2012 Armenian parliamentary election, the party endorsed the Prosperous Armenia party. Prior to the 2017 Armenian parliamentary elections, the party stated that the Republican Party of Armenia must step aside and admit political defeat, while also stating they would not work with the Way Out Alliance. 2017 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 2 April 2017. They were the first elections after a constitutional referendum in 2015 that approved reforms for the country to become a parliamentary republic. The result was a victory for the ruling Republican Party of Armenia, which won 58 of the 105 seats in the National Assembly. Electoral system At the time of the previous elections in 2012, the National Assembly had 131 seats, of which 41 were elected in single-member constituencies by first-past-the-post voting and 90 by proportional representation in a single nationwide constituency with an electoral threshold of 5%.
