Tsarahasina is a municipality in Madagascar. It belongs to the Districts of Madagascar, district of Boriziny-Vaovao District, Boriziny-Vaovao, which is a part of Sofia Region. The population of the commune was estimated to be approximately 14,000 in 2001 commune census. Geography Tsarahasina is situated on at Route nationale 6 (Madagascar), National Road 6, shortly before Port-Bergé. It is situated along the Bemarivo River. Only primary schooling is available. The majority 60% of the population of the commune are farmers, while an additional 39% receives their livelihood from raising livestock. The most important crops are rice and cotton, while other important agricultural products are tobacco and cowpea. Services provide employment for 1% of the population. Boriziny (French: Port-Bergé) is a city (commune urbaine) in western Madagascar in Sofia Region. Geography It is situated at the Route nationale 6 near the bay of Helodrano. The Bemarivo flows near Port Bergé, just before flowing into the Anjobony and the Sofia River. An airport serves the town. Cowpea
The cowpea (''Vigna unguiculata'') is an annual herbaceous legume from the genus ''Vigna''. Its tolerance for sandy soil and low rainfall have made it an important crop in the semiarid regions across Africa and Asia. It requires very few inputs, as the plant's root nodules are able to fix atmospheric nitrogen, making it a valuable crop for resource-poor farmers and well-suited to intercropping with other crops. The whole plant is used as forage for animals, with its use as cattle feed likely responsible for its name. Four subspecies of cowpeas are recognised, of which three are cultivated.
