Troy Batchelor
Troy Matthew Batchelor (born 29 August 1987) is an Australian speedway rider. Career Australia Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Troy Batchelor enjoyed his first success when he won the 2001 Queensland and New South Wales Under-16 championships and followed this up by winning the 2003 Australian Under-16 Championship at the Bibra Lake Speedway in Perth. After graduating to the senior ranks following his 16th birthday, Batchelor won the Queensland State Championship in 2007 before he moved to Adelaide in South Australia where he has won the South Australian Championship at the Gillman Speedway five times (2008-2011, 2013). He currently sits all time second on the SA title winners list behind joint record holders John Boulger and the 1951 and 1952 World Champion Jack Young. The Queensland Solo Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held annually in Queensland to determine the Queensland State champion. The event is organised by the Motorcycling Queensland and is sanctioned by Motorcycling Australia (MA). Keith Gurtner and John Titman head the list of Queensland Championship wins with seven each. 1986 Australian Champion Troy Butler and current (2014/15) champion Josh Grajczonek are next with six wins. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Elite Shield
The Elite Shield later Charity Shield (2018) and Premiership Shield (2019) was a motorcycle speedway competition held in the United Kingdom for the highest league at the time. Like football's Community Shield, it was contested for by the winners of the league and the winners of the Knockout Cup. The Shield began in 2006 and was contested as a season opener, although a postponed meeting at Kirkmanshulme Lane (the home track of the Belle Vue Aces at the time) in the 2006 Elite Shield led to that meeting taking place later in the season. The Premier League Knockout Cup was a motorcycle speedway Knockout Cup competition in the United Kingdom between 1995 and 2016, governed by the Speedway Control Bureau (SCB).
