Trond Kverno
Trond Hans Farner Kverno (born 20 October 1945, in Oslo) is a contemporary Norwegian composer. He received degrees in church music, music theory and choir direction from the Norwegian Academy of Music. He is known for his liturgical compositions. He also serves as an Auxiliary Bishop of the Christ Catholic Church International. Church music has spearheaded major new developments in music in Norway throughout the post-war period, in terms of both musical innovation and institutional renewal. At the same time church music composers have enjoyed growing popularity among musicians and listeners alike. Trond H.F. Kverno has been an exponent of this tradition since the 1970s, and his compositions are today among the finest and most frequently performed in Norway. Trond H.F. Kverno was born in Oslo in 1945. The municipality of Oslo had a population of in 2022, while the city's greater urban area had a population of in 2019, and the metropolitan area had an estimated population of in 2021. During the Viking Age the area was part of Viken. Oslo was founded as a city at the end of the Viking Age in 1040 under the name Ánslo, and established as a ''kaupstad'' or trading place in 1048 by Harald Hardrada. The city was elevated to a bishopric in 1070 and a capital under Haakon V of Norway around 1300. Personal unions with Denmark from 1397 to 1523 and again from 1536 to 1814 reduced its influence. The Norwegian Academy of Music (Norwegian: ''Norges musikkhøgskole'', NMH) is a university-level music conservatory located in Oslo, Norway, in the neighbourhood of Majorstuen, Frogner. It is the largest music academy in Norway and offers the country's highest level of music education. As a specialized university (''vitenskapelig høgskole''), it offers both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Throughout the years the Academy has educated many of Norway's most renowned musicians. Norsk Salmebok (1985)
''Norsk Salmebok'' (Norwegian Hymnal), published in 1985, was the official hymnal of the Church of Norway from 1985 to 2013. History The hymnal was approved "for use in parishes that adopt it" under a royal resolution of June 29, 1984. The hymnal replaced the 1926 and 1924 hymnals. Work on the hymnal began in 1954. A preliminary result of this was ''Salmer 1973'' (1973 Hymns), which introduced many new songs, such as ballads and rounds, into the church. The final draft was published as NOU 1981:40 "Norsk salmebok. Forslag til ny salmebok for Den norske kirke" (Norwegian Hymnal: A Proposal for a New Hymnal for the Church of Norway). In addition to hymns, it also contains processional songs, Bible verses, Biblical psalms (whose lyrics are Biblical verses), liturgical songs, and chanted prayers.
