Trolleybuses In Saint-Étienne
The Saint-Étienne trolleybus system (french: Réseau de trolleybus de Saint-Étienne) forms part of the public transport network of the city and ''Communes of France, commune'' of Saint-Étienne, in the Rhône-Alpes Regions of France, region of the :fr:Grand Sud-Est français, Great South East of France. In operation since 1942, the system is one of only three operating trolleybus systems in France; the others are the Trolleybuses in Limoges, Limoges system and the Trolleybuses in Lyon, Lyon system. Today, the city is taking major steps to develop trolleybus transport. New battery trolleybuses Solaris T12 with ŠKODA electric equipment were purchased. The Lyon trolleybus system (french: Réseau de trolleybus de Lyon) is part of the public transport network of the city and '' commune'' of Lyon, France. Opened in 1935, it combines with the Lyon Metro, the Lyon tramway network and Lyon's urban motorbus network to form an integrated system. Lyon was one of the first cities in France to experience trolleybuses. It is the ' ("capital of the French trolleybus"). In 1961, the Lyon trolleybus system had the largest number of trolleybuses ever to operate simultaneously in France (370 vehicles). Saint-Étienne Tramway
The Saint-Étienne tramway (french: Tramway de Saint-Étienne) is a tram system in the city of Saint-Étienne in the Rhône-Alpes (France) that has functioned continuously since its opening in 1881. The first tramway line was steam-operated and was opened by the (CFVE) on 4 December 1881, stretching for 5.5 km between and . The CFVE took over the lines and discontinued the use of steam in 1912. Lines with small patronage were replaced by trolleybuses in 1932 with all but one line closed in 1956 as a result of the impossibility of running these buses on the busiest line of the network. The decision to keep the tramway in the 1950s saw the introduction of the famous PCC tramcars to replace 1932 rolling stock and the Vevey-Alsthom tramcars in 1991-1992. Berliet was a French manufacturer of automobiles, buses, trucks and military vehicles among other vehicles based in Vénissieux, outside of Lyon, France.
