Tristram J. Coffin
Tristram J. Coffin (born May 16, 1963) is an American attorney from Vermont. He served as the United States attorney for the District of Vermont from 2009 to 2015. Education Coffin was on born May 16, 1963, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University in 1985 and earned a Juris Doctor from Columbia University Law School in 1989. Career After graduating from law school, Coffin served as a law clerk for Judge Albert Wheeler Coffrin in the District of Vermont. From 1991 to 1994, he was a counsel to Senator Patrick Leahy on the Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Technology and the Law. Prior to that, he spent two years as a litigation associate at Hale and Dorr in Boston. United States attorneys are officials of the U.S. Department of Justice who serve as the chief federal law enforcement officers in each of the 94 U.S. federal judicial districts. Each U.S. attorney serves as the United States' chief federal criminal prosecutor in their judicial district and represents the U.S. federal government in civil litigation in federal and state court within their geographic jurisdiction.
