After graduating from law school, Coffin served as a law clerk for Judge Albert Wheeler Coffrin in the District of Vermont. From 1991 to 1994, he was a counsel to Senator Patrick Leahy on the Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Technology and the Law.
