Trisha Broadbridge
Trisha Silvers (born 19 April 1981 in Melbourne, Victoria) became known in Australia for surviving the tsunami of 26 December 2004, in which her new husband Troy Broadbridge was killed. Biography She is active in the Reach Foundation, an Australian organisation that promotes youth self-esteem and is the founder of the Reach Broadbridge Fund which she now manages part-time. In 2005, Silvers wrote ''Beyond the Wave'', which chronicles her life prior to, during and after the tsunami. She was the 2006 recipient of the Young Australian of the Year Award, for her work in Thailand and with Australian youth. In 2006, she appeared on the Nine Network's ''Torvill and Dean's Dancing on Ice'' and had a brief relationship with Ryan Phelan. Tania Major (born 13 June 1981) is an Aboriginal activist who first came to prominence in 2004 as the youngest person elected to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC). Biography Born in Cairns, Queensland, to Peter Taylor and Priscilla Major, Major was educated at Clayfield College and Griffith University in Brisbane, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in criminology and criminal justice. The Cairns-based indigenous youth advocate used her profile to draw attention to domestic violence in the Aboriginal community. Her forthright way of addressing the problems focused national attention on the issue. Khoa Do (Vietnamese: ''Đỗ Khoa'', ), is a film director, screenwriter, and philanthropist. He received the Young Australian of the Year Award in 2005. Early life and family The Do family left Vietnam in 1980 as Vietnamese refugees, fleeing Saigon by boat. At the age of 18 months, Khoa narrowly escaped death at the hands of Thai pirates. They arrived in Sydney in August 1980. Do received a scholarship to attend St Aloysius' College in Milsons Point, graduating in 1996. He studied Law and Arts at the University of Sydney. Moomba
Moomba (also known as the Moomba Festival) is held annually in Melbourne, Australia. Run by the City of Melbourne, it is Australia's largest free community festival. The Melburnian tradition is celebrated over four days, incorporating the Labour Day long weekend, from Friday to the second Monday in March. Moomba is culturally important to Melbourne, having been celebrated since 1955, and regularly attracts up to a million people, with a record attendance of 3.8 million (2.3 million tourists) set in 2018. Ryan Phelan is an Australian television journalist, media personality and presenter. Phelan has previously presented news updates on ''The Morning Show'' and was co-host of ''The Daily Edition''. Career Phelan’s television career started in the late '90's as a presenter for Sky Racing where, amongst other things, his duties included spruiking the 'firmers' and the things paying 'overs'.
