The Trinidad and Tobago national rugby union team has thus far not qualified for the Rugby World Cup, but has participated in qualifying tournaments since 1999. They are classed as a tier-three nation by World Rugby. The national side is ranked 52nd in the world (as of 29 July 2019). History Trinidad and Tobago played their first ever rugby international in 1979 in Georgetown against Bermuda. Trinidad and Tobago lost the contest 8 points to 42. Trinidad and Tobago attempted to qualify for the 1999 Rugby World Cup in Wales. Their first match of the Americas qualifying tournament was a one-off Round 1 match against Brazil in Port of Spain. Trinidad and Tobago won the game 41 points to nil and advanced to Round 2, where they faced Chile and Bermuda in a pool series. The Bermuda national rugby union team represents Bermuda in the sport of rugby union. Bermuda are the current Caribbean Champions 2019 although they have thus far not played in a Rugby World Cup, but have participated in qualifying tournaments. History Bermuda first played in qualifying tournaments for a Rugby World Cup in the Americas tournaments for the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. Bermuda were eliminated from North-Round 1, losing 3 points to 60 to the United States. Bermuda attempted to qualify for the 1999 Rugby World Cup in Wales as well, participating in Group 2 of Round 1 Americas qualifying, where they finished at the top of their pool after defeating both the Bahamas and Barbados, and advancing to Round 2. The Guyana national rugby union team represents Guyana in the sport of rugby union. They have thus far not qualified for a Rugby World Cup, but have participated in qualifying tournaments. History Guyana made their international debut in Georgetown in 1979 in a match against Bermuda, which Bermuda won. They played Bermuda again in 1981 in the Port of Spain. The team got their first win in 1999 in Georgetown, defeating Martinique seven points to three. Trinidad And Tobago Women's National Rugby Union Team
The Trinidad and Tobago women's national rugby union team is a national sporting side that represents Trinidad and Tobago in Women's rugby union. They played their first test match in 2003 and compete annually in the Rugby Americas North Women's Rugby Championship. History Trinidad and Tobago competed in the inaugural NAWIRA Women's Rugby Championship in 2003, they hosted Jamaica in Port of Spain in a two-test series and were victorious in both games. Between 2016 and 2019 they competed in a ten-a-side version of the game as they tried to build-up the game in the region. The competition was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. 2022 saw the teams increase up to twelve players and the region had its first 12-a-side tournament. In 2023, Trinidad and Tobago sent their fifteens team after almost twelve years. They finished as runners-up after losing to USA South in the final. The Trinidad and Tobago Rugby Football Union (TTRFU) is the governing body for rugby union in Trinidad and Tobago. It was founded in 1928 and became affiliated to the International Rugby Board in 1992. It is also a member of the West Indies Rugby Union, the Trinidad & Tobago Olympic Committee and the North American and West Indian Rugby Association. Rugby Americas North, abbreviated as RAN, is the governing body for rugby union in the North American continental region. Rugby Americas North operates under the authority of World Rugby, and is one of six regional unions represented within it. Prior to 2016, the organisation was known as NACRA – the North America Caribbean Rugby Association. The preceding body before 2010 was NAWIRA – the North America and West Indies Rugby Association. The main objective of RAN is the promotion and development of rugby in North America and the Caribbean. 2015 NACRA Rugby Championship
The 2015 NACRA Rugby Championship, the eighth edition of the NACRA Rugby Championship, is a rugby union championship for Tier 3 North American and Caribbean teams. Pool play will take place between 28 February and 18 April. A championship game, as well as promotion/relegation matches, will follow. The championship is split between North and South zones, which each have a three-team Championship. The North Zone has a three-team Cup, while the South Zone has a four-team Cup. The winner of each Championship play for the final, championship game, and a promotion/relegation game is played in each zone, between the winner of the Cup, and the last place team of the Championship. Competition points are different from most rugby union tournaments: Two points are awarded for a win, one for a draw. There are also bonus points for scoring four tries and for losing within a margin of 7 points or less.
