2007 Pan American Games
The 2007 Pan American Games, officially known as the XV Pan American Games, were a major continental multi-sport event that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from July 13 to 29, 2007. A total of 5,633 athletes from 42 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competed in 332 events in 34 sports and in 47 disciplines. During the Games, 95 new Pan American records were set; 2,196 medals were awarded; 1,262 doping control tests were performed and about 15,000 volunteers participated in the organization of the event, which was an Olympic qualification for 13 International Federations (IFs). Rio de Janeiro was awarded the Games over San Antonio, Texas, United States, on August 24, 2002, having won an absolute majority of votes (30–21) from the 51 members of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) in the first round of voting during the XL PASO General Assembly held in Mexico City, Mexico. Emile Abraham (born 28 April 1974) is a professional cyclist from Trinidad and Tobago. He won the silver medal in the men's individual road race at the 2007 Pan American Games, just behind Dominican Republic's Wendy Cruz. In 2017 he won the USA Masters National road cycling championships and a bronze medal in the Masters World Track Championships in the points race in Los Angeles. Cleopatra Borel-Brown
Cleopatra Ayesha Borel (from 2005 until 2010 Borel-Brown; born 10 March 1979) is a female shot putter from Plaisance, Mayaro, Trinidad and Tobago and a 2014 Sportswoman of the Year Award recipient. Early life Borel is a graduate of Mayaro Government Primary School and a former attendee of Mayaro Composite School and Saint Stephen's College, Princes Town, Trinidad. In 2002 she graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a bachelor's degree in health psychology and pre-physical therapy and later pursued a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Virginia Tech. Career In 2018 Cleopatra Borel participated at the Launch Meeting Circuit of Central Coliseum - National Stadium in Chile, receiving her second gold medal for the year. George Bovell
George Richard Lycott Bovell (born 18 July 1983) is an Olympic bronze medalist swimmer and former world record holder from Trinidad and Tobago. Bovell is also a two-time World Championship bronze medalist. Olympic career George Bovell represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics. At the 2004 Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the men's 200 IM: the 9th medalist in the country's history and 12th medal overall. It was also the first-ever Olympic swimming medal for the country, and T&T's only medal from the 2004 Olympics. Bovell made it to the Finals of the 50m Freestyle in London where he placed 7th after returning from a forced hiatus due to a brain injury earlier in the season. Chinedum Osuji (born December 15, 1976) is the Eduardo D. Glandt Presidential Professor and the departmental chair of chemical and biomolecular engineering (CBE) at University of Pennsylvania. He is also a former Taekwondo Olympian and represented Trinidad and Tobago. His laboratory works on polymers and soft materials for functional application including liquid filtration. He is the associate editor of the journal ''Macromolecules''. Early life and education Chinedum Osuji was born in Trinidad and Tobago and lived there until he began his education in the United States. He studied materials science and engineering, receiving his bachelor's degree from Cornell University in 1999.
