Triennale
The Triennale di Milano is a design and art museum in the Parco Sempione in Milan, in Lombardy in northern Italy. It is housed in the Palazzo dell'Arte, which was designed by Giovanni Muzio and built between 1931 and 1933; construction was financed by Antonio Bernocchi and his brothers Andrea and Michele. The Milan Triennial, an World's fair, international exhibition of art and design, was held at the museum thirteen times between 1936 and 1996, and – after a break of twenty years – again in 2016. Since 2003 the Triennale has awarded the triennial Gold Medal for Italian Architecture ( it, Medaglia d'oro all'architettura italiana, italic=no). A permanent museum of Italian design, the Trienniale Design Museum, was opened in 2007. It hosts design, architecture, and the visual, scenic and performing arts. Milan Triennial
The ''Milan Triennial'' (Triennale di Milano) is an art and design exhibition that takes place every three years at the Triennale di Milano Museum in Milan, Italy. History The exhibition was originally established in 1923 as a biennial architecture and industrial design event. The first five editions took place in Monza. In 1933 the exhibition was relocated to Milan and the format was changed to a triennial basis. The designated venue was the new Palazzo dell’Arte designed by architect Giovanni Muzio, featuring Gio Ponti's Torre Branca. The Triennial was recognised by the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) in 1933. With Ponti and artist Mario Sironi at the helm, the 5th Triennale expanded its field to visual art, with mural paintings made by artists such as Giorgio de Chirico, Massimo Campigli and Carlo Carrà. Gold Medal For Italian Architecture
The Gold Medal for Italian Architecture, it, Medaglia d'oro all'architettura italiana, italic=no, is a triennial Italian architecture prize. It has been awarded since 2003 by the Triennale di Milano in collaboration with the Ministero dei beni e delle attività culturali e del turismo (the Italian ministry of culture), and with MADE expo, a trade fair for the construction industry. Recipients of the medal have been: Umberto Riva and PierPaolo Ricatti in 2003; the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in 2006; Doriana and Massimiliano Fuksas in 2009; Vincenzo Latina in 2012; and Massimo Carmassi and Università Iuav di Venezia in 2015. Antonio Bernocchi
Antonio Bernocchi (17 January 1859 – 8 December 1930) was an Italian industrialist, who built up a successful textile factory at Legnano, in Lombardy. Life Bernocchi was born on 17 January 1859 at Castellanza in the province of Varese, in Lombardy in northern Italy. He was one of three sons of Rodolfo Bernocchi and Angela Colombo. Bernocchi attended the Scuola Tecnica of Busto Arsizio, but did not complete his education. By the age of fifteen he was working for his father in a small textile bleaching works at Legnano. In 1898 the family started a textile business at Legnano, which was successful and grew substantially. Factories were opened at Nerviano, Cerro Maggiore and Angera. Bernocchi became ''sindaco'' (mayor) of Legnano. In 1929 he was made a Grande Ufficiale ("grand officer") of the Order of the Crown of Italy. Parco Sempione
Parco Sempione ("Simplon Park") is a large city park in Milan, Italy. Established in 1888, it has an overall area of , and it is located in the historic centre of the city, inside the Zone 1 administrative division. The park is adjacent to the gardens of the Sforza Castle and to the Arch of Peace, two of the main landmarks of Milan. The very design of the park, due to architect Emilio Alemagna, was conceived with the intent of creating panoramic views encompassing both monuments. A third prominent monument of Parco Sempione is the Palazzo dell'Arte ("Palace of Art"), built in 1933 and designed by Giovanni Muzio, which currently houses the Triennale di Milano art expo. Giovanni Muzio
Giovanni Muzio (12 February 1893 – 21 May 1982) was an Italian architect. Muzio was born and died in Milan. He was closely associated with the Novecento Italiano artists group. Biography The son of Virginio Muzio, an accomplished architect, Muzio studied in Milan, and after participation in the war and a trip to Europe, in 1920 he opened in Milan (Via St. Ursula) a study with Giuseppe De Finetti, Gio Ponti, Emilio Lancia and Mino Fiocchi and actively participated in the cultural life of Milan. After service in World War I Muzio began his practice in 1920 and is responsible for the best-known work of the Novecento movement, the 1922 residential block called the Ca' Brutta ("Ugly House") on the Via Moscova in Milan. Twentieth-century art—and what it became as modern art—began with modernism in the late nineteenth century.
