Triatoma Infestans
''Triatoma infestans'', commonly called winchuka or vinchuca in Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Chile, barbeiro in Brazil, chipo in Venezuela and also known as "kissing bug" or "barber bug" in English, is a blood-sucking bug (like virtually all the members of its subfamily Triatominae) and the most important vector of '' Trypanosoma cruzi'' which can lead to Chagas disease. It is widespread in the Southern Cone countries of South America. This region has joined the control intervention called ''Southern Cone Initiative'' managed by the PAHO. During the ''Beagle'' survey voyage, Charles Darwin noted in his journal for 26 March 1835 having "experienced an attack, & it deserves no less a name, of the ''Benchuca'', the great black bug of the Pampas. It is most disgusting to feel soft wingless insects, about an inch long, crawling over ones body; before sucking they are quite thin, but afterwards round & bloated with blood, & in this state they are easily squashed." El Salvador
El Salvador (; , meaning " The Saviour"), officially the Republic of El Salvador ( es, República de El Salvador), is a country in Central America. It is bordered on the northeast by Honduras, on the northwest by Guatemala, and on the south by the Pacific Ocean. El Salvador's capital and largest city is San Salvador. The country's population in 2022 is estimated to be 6.5 million. Trends In Parasitology
A fad or trend is any form of collective behavior that develops within a culture, a generation or social group in which a group of people enthusiastically follow an impulse for a short period. Fads are objects or behaviors that achieve short-lived popularity but fade away. Fads are often seen as sudden, quick-spreading, and short-lived. Fads include diets, clothing, hairstyles, toys, and more. Some popular fads throughout history are toys such as yo-yos, hula hoops, and fad dances such as the Macarena, floss and the twist. Similar to habits or customs but less durable, fads often result from an activity or behavior being perceived as emotionally popular or exciting within a peer group, or being deemed " cool" as often promoted by social networks.Kornblum (2007), p. 213. A fad is said to "catch on" when the number of people adopting it begins to increase to the point of being noteworthy. Fads often fade quickly when the perception of novelty is gone. Panstrongylus Megistus
''Panstrongylus megistus'' is a blood-drinking insect in the subfamily Triatominae. It is found in the Guianas, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina, and is an important vector of '' Trypanosoma cruzi'' (the causative agent of Chagas disease), particularly in Brazil. Besides humans, ''P. megistus'' is known to feed on birds, rodents, horses, dogs, opossums and bats. ''P. megistus'' is frequently found in domestic dwellings in Brazil, while in other countries it is largely a wild species. Within Brazil, ''P. megistus's'' range stretches from the northeast to the south of the country, corresponding roughly with the Atlantic Forest region, though the species also occupies parts of the caatinga and cerrado ecoregions. The states of Bahia and Minas Gerais have the highest populations of ''P. megistus'' in Brazil. In southern parts of the country, domestic colonization is rare. The species was described in 1835 by Hermann Burmeister Karl Hermann Konrad Burmeister (al ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
