Trash Or Treasure
''Trash or Treasure'', later known as ''Treasure Hunt'', is an early American TV series which aired on the DuMont Television Network Thursdays at 9pm ET from October 1, 1952, to September 27, 1953. The show was hosted by Sigmund Rothschild and Nelson Case. In the show, owners of collectible items would bring antiques to host Sigmund Rothschild, who would give an opinion on how much they were worth. Rothschild was a self-taught appraiser, who appraised antiques for many celebrities. The program's name was changed to ''Treasure Hunt'' in April 1953, according to McNeil (1996).McNeil, Alex (1996). Nelson Case
Nelson Case (February 3, 1910 – March 23, 1976) was an American radio and television announcer. Case was the son of Walter and Ethel Case. His father was a newspaperman, and his mother was a driving force in the Long Beach Community Players. He attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School and first worked as an announcer on the school's radio station. One of his early ventures into entertainment came when "as a youngster in Long Beach, he sang and played the uke for a band called the Sunset Symphonic Six." He was a graduate of the College of William & Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia, where he met his future wife. Although Case was best known for being an announcer on popular radio and television programs (in 1953, he was "on radio 20 times a week, on TV three" ), a 1941 newspaper article noted that he "covered everything from news and special events to sports." What's It Worth
''What's It Worth'' is an early American television series that aired on the CBS Television network from 21 May 1948 and into 1949. The series was later revived in 1952, before finally finishing its run on 11 October 1953. The show was hosted by self-taught appraiser Sigmund Rothschild (1917-1991), who appraised antiques for celebrities. Rothschild also hosted a similar program called '' Trash or Treasure?'' (1952–53) on the DuMont Television Network. As the series title suggests, the audience submitted items of art, and Rothschild would tell them how much they were worth. A sustaining program is a radio or television program that, despite airing on a commercial broadcast station, does not have commercial sponsorship or advertising. This term, mostly used in the United States, was common in the early days of radio, but has become unfamiliar owing to the nearly universal use of commercial advertising on radio and television. All regularly scheduled programs which were aired on the DuMont network are listed below, regardless of whether they originated at DuMont. The DuMont Television Network was launched in 1946 and ceased broadcasting in 1956. Allen DuMont, who created the network, preserved most of what it produced in kinescope format. By 1958, however, much of the library had been destroyed to recover the silver content of the film prints, and eventually the remaining material was simply discarded.
