Transwa
Transwa is Western Australia's regional public transport provider, linking 240 destinations, from Kalbarri in the north to Augusta in the south west to Esperance in the south east. The Transwa system provides transport to the major regional centres of Bunbury, Kalgoorlie, Northam, Geraldton and Albany. Transwa is part of the Public Transport Authority and was launched on 28 May 2003 replacing the Western Australian Government Railways Commission. The ''AvonLink'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa between Midland and Northam. History The consideration of revitalising passenger services in 1993 saw the ''Avonlink Ministerial Committee'' formed by Minister for Transport Eric Charlton. Midland Railway Station, Perth
Midland railway station is the terminus of the Midland line in Perth. Western Australia. It is operated by Transperth and is connected with the feeder bus services that utilise the adjacent bus terminal in Midland. History Midland station was opened on 8 October 1968 by Minister for Transport & Railways Ray O'Connor as a replacement for Midland Junction station when the main Eastern Railway was being converted to dual gauge. It originally had four narrow gauge platform faces, three terminating and one through. A separate platform was provided for the standard gauge line 150 metres away. One of the terminating lines was lifted in the 1990s and in February 2001, the through line converted to dual gauge allowing ''The Prospector'' to call at the main station. The ''MerredinLink'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa between Perth and Merredin. History The ''MerredinLink'' was introduced in June 2004 when the ''AvonLink'' from Perth was extended from Northam to Merredin on three days a week. Kalgoorlie Railway Station
Kalgoorlie railway station is the most eastern attended station in Western Australia, located at the eastern terminus of the Eastern Goldfields Railway. It serves the city of Kalgoorlie. Beyond Kalgoorlie, the line continues east as the Trans-Australian Railway. Establishment Construction of the railway station and yard was begun in the late 1890s, as part of the extension of the Eastern Goldfields Railway from Coolgardie in January 1897. The Prospector (train)
''The Prospector'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa between East Perth and Kalgoorlie. On this service, two trains depart almost at the same time in opposite directions, one travelling between East Perth and Kalgoorlie, and the other between Kalgoorlie and East Perth. The original vehicles ordered in 1968 for trains providing this service were replaced in 2004 with vehicles capable of reducing journey times to 6 hours 45 minutes. History With the standard gauge line from Perth to Kalgoorlie due to open in mid-1969, the Western Australian Government Railways decided to replace ''The Kalgoorlie'' overnight sleeper service with a daylight service. Perth railway station is the largest station on the Transperth network, serving the central business district of Perth, Western Australia. Merredin Railway Station
Merredin railway station is located on the Eastern Goldfields Railway in Western Australia. It is in the town of Merredin. History The original Merredin station opened in 1895. It was an important station on the Eastern Goldfields Railway, being the junction station for a number of lines to locations in the Wheatbelt and Goldfields regions. The main eastern railway connected with Northam to the west, and to Southern Cross to the east. Public Transport Centre
The Public Transport Centre (formerly known as the Westrail Centre) is a terminal and administration building for public transport in Perth, Western Australia. It is the centerpiece of East Perth Terminal (formerly known as Perth Terminal), a standard gauge railway station and coach terminal adjacent to East Perth station on the Transperth narrow gauge suburban rail network. Previous use The site occupied by East Perth station, East Perth Terminal, and the Public Transport Centre was formerly the East Perth Locomotive Depot. East Perth Railway Terminal As part of the gauge conversion of the Eastern Goldfields Railway, a new standard gauge terminus was opened in 1969. Australind (train)
The ''Australind'' is a rural passenger train service in Western Australia operated by Transwa on the South Western Railway between Perth and Bunbury. History The ''Australind'' service began on 24 November 1947 and was hauled initially by U class steam locomotives. With an average speed of , it was the fastest narrow gauge passenger train in Australia. It was named to commemorate the city of that name envisioned by Marshall Waller Clifton on Leschenault Inlet 100 years previously. The current hamlet of Australind, a satellite town of Bunbury, has never had a passenger rail service, nor even a railway line. In February 1958, X class diesel locomotives took over. The service was relaunched on 1 October 1960 with onboard catering removing the need for an elongated stop at Pinjarra.
