Transport For Edinburgh
Transport for Edinburgh is the organisation that oversees public transport in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. It manages the city's public transport operations in a similar manner to Transport for London, but with many fewer powers. The organisation works to integrate public transport services in Edinburgh operated by Edinburgh Trams, Lothian Buses and First Scotland East. It focused solely on buses and trams during its first twelve months and later included cycles. The formation of the organisation was announced on 15 August 2013, by Edinburgh transport convener and former Lord Provost of Edinburgh Lesley Hinds. The body holds The City of Edinburgh Council's 91% stake in Lothian Buses, and its 100% stake in Edinburgh Trams. Lothian
Lothian (; sco, Lowden, Loudan, -en, -o(u)n; gd, Lodainn ) is a region of the Scottish Lowlands, lying between the southern shore of the Firth of Forth and the Lammermuir Hills and the Moorfoot Hills. The principal settlement is the Scottish capital, Edinburgh, while other significant towns include Livingston, Linlithgow, Bathgate, Queensferry, Dalkeith, Bonnyrigg, Penicuik, Musselburgh, Prestonpans, North Berwick, Dunbar, Whitburn and Haddington. Edinburgh Trams
Edinburgh Trams is a tramway in Edinburgh, Scotland, operated by Edinburgh Trams Ltd. It is a line between St Andrew Square in the New Town and Edinburgh Airport, with 15 stops. Construction began in June 2008, and after encountering delays it opened on 31 May 2014. The scheme had an initial estimated cost of £375 million in 2003, but by May 2008, when contracts were signed, the cost had risen to £521 million. The final cost after delays was £776 million. After running for two years, the scheme had achieved pre-tax profitability (excluding maintenance and infrastructure costs) and exceeded the original ridership targets. The Right Honourable Lord Provost of Edinburgh is the convener of the City of Edinburgh local authority, who is elected by City_of_Edinburgh_Council, the city council and serves not only as the chair of that body, but as a figurehead for the entire city, ex officio the Lord-Lieutenant of Edinburgh. Lesley Hinds is a Scottish Labour Party politician who served as Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Scotland from 2003 to 2007. Early life and education Hinds was born on 3 August 1956 in Dundee, Scotland to Kenneth and Ena Nicol. She attended Kirkton High School in Dundee and studied at Dundee College of Education. She was a teacher at Deans Primary Schools in West Lothian from 1977 to 1980.
