Transit Future
Transit Future is a campaign to expand the public transit system in Chicago. The project was launched in 2014 by the Center for Neighborhood Technology and the Active Transportation Alliance. It is modeled on a successful campaign by Los Angeles mayor Antonio Villaraigosa that built public support to raise funds for major transportation investments. Prominent supporters of the Transit Future initiative include Rahm Emanuel, Toni Preckwinkle, Jesús "Chuy" García, and various business and civic groups. Advocates have suggested that Cook County establish a "dedicated revenue stream" of some sort to pay for the transit improvements. They argue that compared to peer cities, Chicago has one of the lowest rates of per capita spending on transit. Oakbrook Center is a shopping center located near Interstate 88 and Route 83 in Oak Brook, Illinois. It was originally opened in 1962. It is the second largest shopping center in the Chicago metropolitan area by gross leasable area, only surpassed by Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois. Bus rapid transit (BRT), also called a busway or transitway, is a bus-based public transport system designed to have much more capacity, reliability and other quality features than a conventional bus system. Typically, a BRT system includes roadways that are dedicated to buses, and gives priority to buses at intersections where buses may interact with other traffic; alongside design features to reduce delays caused by passengers boarding or leaving buses, or paying fares. The SouthEast Service is a proposed commuter rail line to be operated by Metra, the commuter railroad service for the Chicago metropolitan area. The route of the proposed line would use tracks owned by CSX Transportation and the Union Pacific Railroad. Mid-City Transitway
The Mid-City Transitway is a concept for the use of the right-of-way formerly proposed for the Crosstown Expressway in Chicago, Illinois. The uses being studied include a bus-only rapid-transit road (similar to a two-lane road running from McCormick Place north to the Loop), a truck-only bypass around the city center, or a rail rapid transit system (the favored and most feasible of the three primary concepts). Feasibility studies began in late 2002 and were commissioned by Richard M. Daley, then mayor of Chicago. Current studies into the Mid-City Transitway utilize a dormant Beltway Railroad railway embankment just east of Cicero Avenue (Illinois Route 50) and other abandoned rail rights-of-way. Ashland Bus Rapid Transit
The Ashland Bus Rapid Transit is one of the planned bus rapid transit corridors in Chicago. The service will run on Ashland Avenue from Irving Park Road to 95th Street (Chicago), 95th Street, a distance of approximately 17 miles. The route would serve various destinations including the Illinois Medical District, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Malcolm X College, and the United Center. It would also provide a connection to seven Chicago Transit Authority subway/elevated rail stations. Westfield Old Orchard, formerly Old Orchard Shopping Center, is an upscale shopping mall in the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located in Skokie, Illinois. The Jefferson Park Transit Center is an intermodal passenger transport hub in the Jefferson Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It serves as a station for rail and also as a bus terminal.
