The Brandenburg an der Havel tramway network (german: Straßenbahnnetz Brandenburg an der Havel) is a transport network, network of tramways forming the centrepiece of the public transport system in Brandenburg an der Havel, a city in the States of Germany, federal state of Brandenburg, Germany. Opened in 1897 as a horsecar system, the network was converted to an electrically powered system in 1911. It is currently operated by (VBBr), and integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB). Brandenburg an der Havel () is a town in Brandenburg, Germany, which served as the capital of the Margraviate of Brandenburg until it was replaced by Berlin in 1417. With a population of 72,040 (as of 2020), it is located on the banks of the Havel, River Havel. The town of Brandenburg provided the name for the medieval Bishopric of Brandenburg, the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the current state of Brandenburg. Brandenburg Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station in the town of Brandenburg an der Havel in the German state of Brandenburg. It lies on the Berlin–Magdeburg railway at the junction with the Brandenburg Towns Railway. It has largely lost its former major role for long-distance passenger services and freight traffic, but it continues to serve regional traffic. The Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) is a transport association run by public transport providers in the German states of Berlin and Brandenburg. It is a private limited company owned jointly by the states of Berlin and Brandenburg (with one third each) and the 18 counties and cities of Brandenburg with 1.85% each.
