The game is a part of the '' Trails'' series, itself a part of the larger ''The Legend of Heroes'' series, and serves as a sequel to '' The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel''. It was first released in Japan for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita before being localized into English by Xseed Games in 2016. A Windows port by Xseed was released in February 2018, while a remastered version for the PlayStation 4 was released in Japan in April 2018 and worldwide in June 2019. A port for Nintendo Switch was released in Asia in 2021. A sequel, '' The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III'', was released in late 2017.
