It has a post office with a ZIP code of 97541. Trail lies at the intersection of Oregon Route 227 and Oregon Route 62, just north of Shady Cove and west of Lost Creek Lake, a reservoir of the Rogue River. Trail is located around the mouth of Trail Creek at the Rogue River. Rogue River (Oregon)
The Rogue River ( tol, yan-shuu-chit’ taa-ghii~-li~’, tkm, tak-elam) in southwestern Oregon in the United States flows about in a generally westward direction from the Cascade Range to the Pacific Ocean. Known for its salmon runs, whitewater rafting, and rugged scenery, it was one of the original eight rivers named in the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act of 1968. Lost Creek Lake
Lost Creek Lake is a reservoir located on the Rogue River in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. The lake is impounded by William L. Jess Dam which was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1977 for flood control and fisheries enhancement. The lake and dam were the first completed elements of the multi-purpose Rogue River Basin Project, consisting of Lost Creek Lake, Applegate Lake and the Elk Creek project. The lake is located approximately (straight line) northeast of Medford. History Construction of Lost Creek Dam began in 1972 and was completed in 1977. In 1996, the Congress renamed Lost Creek Dam, along with the adjoining intake structure, in honor of William L. Shady Cove, Oregon
Shady Cove is a city in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. The population was 2,904 at the 2010 census. History The city of Shady Cove was incorporated in 1973. Before that, the nearby towns of Trail to the north and Eagle Point to the south were the historic population centers. Etna, the town's precursor, lay between. Settlers started moving into the area, spreading out from Trail, in the 1870s. In 1882, the post stopped in Etna for the first time, though the Postal Service did not establish an office in a place called Shady Cove until September 12, 1939, a Mrs. Lillian Hukill as postmistress. The city's name has no clear origin. It is possible that a man named Barnes established a town site he called "The Cove". However, according to Barbara Hegne, a local historian, the name for Shady Cove came from a speculative operation by some Medford businessmen. Oregon Route 62
Oregon Route 62 is an Oregon state highway that runs between the city of Medford, and U.S. Route 97 between Chiloquin and Klamath Falls. The highway approaches Crater Lake National Park from the south, and is known as the Crater Lake Highway. While the highway is signed east-to-west, it is in reality shaped somewhat like a horseshoe; heading north-northeast from Medford, turning east as it approaches the park, and then turning south-southeast as it approaches Klamath Falls. Oregon Route 227 was an Oregon state highway which originally ran from the city of Canyonville, Oregon to the community of Trail. In 1985, the highway was truncated at the Douglas–Jackson county line; only the southern section remained under state control. It was known as the Tiller–Trail Highway No. 230 (see Oregon highways and routes). The United States census of 2010 was the twenty-third United States national census. National Census Day, the reference day used for the census, was April 1, 2010.
