Tracy Huang
Tracy Huang (; born 29 August 1951) is a Taiwanese singer. Huang began her career in music with the Thunderbird Choir, alongside Su Rui. After she left the group, Huang spent two years in Taichung, at an American military base, where she learned and performed in English. Huang released her first album in 1974 under the stage name Huang Lu-yi. She later adopted the English name Tracy Huang. Known primarily for her Mandopop songs, Huang has also sung in Cantonese and released several English-language song covers. Su Rui
Su Rui (; born 13 June 1952) is a Taiwanese singer. In 1968, Su Rui skipped class to participate in a singing competition and was selected, joining the Zero Chorus to sing Western pop songs, and began her singing career. Later, she joined the Action Choir, named Julie in English. In 1971, she graduated from high school and began to perform at the Qingquangang American Army Club (CCK) in Taichung with Yingying Huang and they became friends. In 1973, she became the first female singer in residence at the Taipei Hilton. She was recommended to perform at the Hilton Hotel in Hong Kong, singing in Hong Kong for 3 years. Before becoming a singer, Su Rui wanted to be a physical education teacher. At that time, she was good at track and field and basketball, so she hoped to be a teacher and teach students. Mandopop
Mandopop or Mandapop refers to Standard Chinese, Mandarin popular music. The genre has its origin in the jazz-influenced popular music of 1930s Shanghai known as Shidaiqu; with later influences coming from Japanese enka, Hong Kong's Cantopop, Taiwan's Hokkien pop, and in particular the School campus song, Campus Song folk movement of the 1970s. 'Mandopop' may be used as a general term to describe popular songs performed in Mandarin. Though Mandopop predates Cantopop, the English term was coined around 1980 after "Cantopop" became a popular term for describing popular songs in Cantonese. "Mandopop" was used to describe Mandarin-language popular songs of that time, some of which were versions of Cantopop songs sung by the same singers with different lyrics to suit the different rhyme and tonal patterns of Mandarin. Golden Melody Award
The Golden Melody Awards (), commonly abbreviated as GMA, is an honor awarded by Taiwan's Ministry of Culture to recognize outstanding achievement in the Mandarin, Taiwanese Hokkien, Hakka, and Formosan-languages popular and traditional music industry. The GMAs are awarded on the basis of votes by members of jury, and it has constantly been recognized as the equivalent to the Grammy Awards in Chinese-speaking world. It shares recognition of the music industry as that of the other performance awards such as the Golden Bell Awards (television) and the Golden Horse Awards (motion pictures). The 1st Golden Melody Awards was held on January 6, 1990, to honor the popular music production by performers.
