Tovarnik
Tovarnik (, sr-Cyrl, Товарник, hu, Felsőtárnok, german: Sankt Georg, la, Ulmo) is a municipality in the Vukovar-Syrmia County in Croatia next to the border with Serbia with the town of Šid and the village of Ilinci on the other side of the border. According to the 2001 census, there are 2,775 inhabitants, 91.06% which are Croats. The municipality is part of Syrmia. It is the birthplace of great Croatian poet Antun Gustav Matoš. Tovarnik is underdeveloped municipality which is statistically classified as the First Category Area of Special State Concern by the Government of Croatia. Geography The municipality is located in historical regions of Syrmia. The total area of the municipality is 64.56 km2. The territory of the municipality is completely flat with very fertile black soil. Church Of Saint Matthew, Tovarnik
The Church of Saint Matthew ( hr, Crkva svetog Mateja) in Tovarnik is a Roman Catholic church in eastern Croatia. The parish priest Ivan Burik was the only Roman Catholic priest who was killed during the Croatian War of Independence. In the first half 2008 the Government of the Republic of Croatia provided 150,000 Croatian Kuna for completion of the reconstruction of the church. D46 (Croatia)
The D46 state road in the eastern part of Croatia connects the cities and towns of Đakovo and Vinkovci to the state road network of Croatia, and to the border with Serbia. The road is long. The route comprises some urban intersections, mostly in the cities Đakovo and Vinkovci, though it bypasses most of the latter city and is planned to bypass it completely. The D46 state road starts in the Osijek-Baranja County in the region of Slavonia, enters the Vukovar-Syrmia County and intersects it orthogonally to the D55 state road, ending in the region of Syrmia. Following the Tovarnik border crossing it continues in Serbia as the State Road 120. Vukovar-Syrmia County
Vukovar-Srijem County ( hr, Vukovarsko-srijemska županija), Vukovar-Sirmium County or Vukovar-Syrmia County, named after the eponymous town of Vukovar and the region of Syrmia, is the easternmost Croatian county. It includes the eastern parts of the region of Slavonia and the western parts of the region of Syrmia, as well as the lower Sava river basin, Posavina and Danube river basin Podunavlje. Antun Gustav Matoš
Antun Gustav Matoš (; 13 June 1873 – 17 March 1914) was a Croatian poet, short story writer, journalist, essayist and travelogue writer. He is considered the champion of Croatian modernist literature, opening Croatia to the currents of European modernism. Life Matoš was born in Tovarnik, in the eastern Croatian region of Syrmia on 13 June 1873. In September 1875, when he was two years old, his parents moved to Zagreb, where he went to primary and secondary school. His attempt to study at the Military Veterinary College in Vienna in 1891 ended in failure due to an illness. He was conscripted in 1893, but he deserted in August 1894, fleeing from Croatia to Šabac and then to Belgrade. He spent the next three years in Belgrade, living in his own words as a "cello player, journalist, and man of letters". Podunavlje ( sr-Cyrl, Подунавље) is the name of the Danube river basin parts located in Serbia (Vojvodina, Belgrade and Eastern Serbia) and Croatia (Slavonia, Syrmia, and Baranya). Podunavlje is located on the southern edge of Pannonian Basin. In its wider meaning, the Serbo-Croatian term refers to the area around the entire flow of the river Danube. Syrmia
Syrmia ( sh, Srem/Срем or sh, Srijem/Сријем, label=none) is a region of the southern Pannonian Plain, which lies between the Danube and Sava rivers. It is divided between Serbia and Croatia. Vinkovci () is a city in Slavonia, in the Vukovar-Syrmia County in eastern Croatia. The city's registered population was 28,247 in the 2021 census, the total population of the city was 31,057, making it the largest town of the county. State Road 120 (Serbia)
State Road 120, is an IIA-class road in northern Serbia, connecting Croatia (where it continues as the D46 road) at Šid with Obrenovac. It is located in Vojvodina and City of Belgrade. Before the new road categorization regulation given in 2013, the route wore the following names: P 103, M 21, P 153a and P 267 (before 2012) / 115, 117 and 13 (after 2012). The existing route is a regional road with two traffic lanes.
