Church Of Saint Matthew, Tovarnik
The Church of Saint Matthew ( hr, Crkva svetog Mateja) in Tovarnik is a Roman Catholic church in eastern Croatia. The parish priest Ivan Burik was the only Roman Catholic priest who was killed during the Croatian War of Independence. In the first half 2008 the Government of the Republic of Croatia provided 150,000 Croatian Kuna for completion of the reconstruction of the church. The tower of the Church of Saint Matthew is 40 meters high. Tovarnik
Tovarnik (, sr-Cyrl, Товарник, hu, Felsőtárnok, german: Sankt Georg, la, Ulmo) is a municipality in the Vukovar-Syrmia County in Croatia next to the border with Serbia with the town of Šid and the village of Ilinci on the other side of the border. According to the 2001 census, there are 2,775 inhabitants, 91.06% which are Croats. The municipality is part of Syrmia. It is the birthplace of great Croatian poet Antun Gustav Matoš. Tovarnik is underdeveloped municipality which is statistically classified as the First Category Area of Special State Concern by the Government of Croatia. The Croatian War of Independence was fought from 1991 to 1995 between Croat forces loyal to the Government of Croatia—which had declared independence from the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY)—and the Serb-controlled Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) and local Serb forces, with the JNA ending its combat operations in Croatia by 1992. The kuna is the currency of Croatia, in use since 1994 (sign: kn; code: HRK). It is subdivided into 100 lipa. The kuna is issued by the Croatian National Bank and the coins are minted by the Croatian Mint. GONG (organization)
GONG is a non-governmental organization from Croatia that oversees elections in Croatia. They were formed in 1997 and the name GONG was an acronym of ' meaning "Citizens organize to oversee voting", but in 2000 the organization changed its name to simply GONG. Prior to the local and the presidential elections in 1997, GONG was created at the initiative of the Coordination of organizations for the protection and promotion of human rights from across Croatia. However, the Election Commission of the Republic of Croatia did not allow GONG's observers access to the polling stations, saying their presence was not defined by the electoral law. Ilača Apparitions
The Mariology of the Catholic Church, Marian Apparitions of Ilača were reported sightings of miraculous events in Croatia in 1865. This was seven years after the Lourdes apparitions. Ilača became the most important Catholic pilgrimage site in the historical region of Syrmia. Initially, church authorities tried to prevent congregations from pilgrimage. Later, it was permitted by bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer. In 1865, a shepherd from Ilača, Petar Lazin, claimed seeing water on the middle of the field road although no rain had fallen, and that once he made a hole, water started flowing and continued thereafter. On the same night, another villager, Đuka Ambrušević saw the Mary, mother of Jesus, Virgin Mary with a child.
