Toulouse-Matabiau
Toulouse-Matabiau is the main railway station in Toulouse, southern France. It is in the city centre and connected to the Toulouse Metro. The station is situated on the Bordeaux–Sète railway, Toulouse–Bayonne railway, Brive–Toulouse (via Capdenac) railway and Toulouse–Auch railway. Direct trains run to most parts of France. History Toulouse waited until the middle of the 19th century for the railway to arrive in the city. In 1853, Émile Pereire and his brother Jacob founded the CF du Midi. Three years later, the line from Bordeaux to Toulouse was opened, it was extended to Sète in 1857. The current passenger building was built between 1903 and 1905, replacing an older and smaller building. The station took the name of the borough, an area called ''Matabiau'', named after the martyrdom of Saint Saturnin, mata-bios meaning ''kill the bull''. Marius Toudoire
Denis Marius Toudoire (Toulon, November 15, 1852 - Paris, March 11, 1922) was a French architect. In particular, he built stations for the Compagnie des chemins de fer de Paris à Lyon et à la Méditerranée (PLM), including the main stations: Paris Lyon to Paris, Bordeaux-Saint-Jean and Toulouse-Matabiau. He also realized the Grande Poste d'Alger. Biography Marius Toudoire was the son of Augustin Martin Toudoire and Chritine Élisabeth Joye. He enrolled at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris where he studied with Charles-Auguste Questel (1807-1888), he came second at the Prix de Rome, and with his student Jean-Louis Pascal (1837-1920) he came first at the Prix de Rome in 1866. He graduated in 1879. Toulouse–Bayonne Railway
The railway from Toulouse to Bayonne is an important French 319-kilometre long railway line, that connects the southern city Toulouse to the southwestern town Bayonne, running along the foothills of the Pyrenees. The railway was opened in several stages between 1861 and 1867. Route The Toulouse–Bayonne railway leaves the Toulouse-Matabiau station in southern direction. It crosses the river Garonne south of Toulouse city centre, and follows the Garonne left bank upstream in southwestern direction. It crosses the Garonne twice near Saint-Martory, and turns west, still on the left Garonne bank. It crosses the Garonne again at Saint-Gaudens and at Montréjeau, where it leaves the Garonne valley. Brive-la-Gaillarde–Toulouse (via Capdenac) Railway
The Brive-la-Gaillarde - Toulouse (via Capdenac) railway is a 248-kilometre French railway line that connects the rural areas between Brive-la-Gaillarde and the large southern city of Toulouse via Figeac and Capdenac. The railway was opened in several stages between 1858 and 1864. Route The Brive-la-Gaillarde–Toulouse railway leaves the Brive-la-Gaillarde station in a southeastern direction, towards Saint-Denis-près-Martel station. Here, the line to Aurillac station leaves in an easterly direction and the preserved line to Martel in a westerly direction. The line soon crosses the River Dordogne and follows the valley for a short while before it opens out into flat land. The Figeac station is on two curves, where the line from Aurillac station joins. The Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi (. CF du Midi), also known in English as the Midi or Southern Railway, was an early French railway company which operated a network of routes in the southwest of the country, chiefly in the area between its main line – which ran from Bordeaux, close to the Atlantic coast, to Sète on the Mediterranean – and the Pyrenees. The railway from Bordeaux to Sète is an important French 476-kilometre long railway line, that connects the southwestern port city Bordeaux (on the Bay of Biscay) to the southern port Sète (on the Mediterranean) via Toulouse and Narbonne. Zebda
Zebda is a French music group from Toulouse, France, known for its political activism and its wide variety of musical styles.
