The Breeze (Bridgwater & West Somerset) formerly Quay West and Total Star Somerset was a local radio station serving the Sedgemoor District, Bridgwater and West Somerset. The station was folded into Greatest Hits Radio South West, as part of a rebrand, on 1 September 2020. History Quay West 100.4/102.8 was originally launched as 102.4 Quay West Radio on 15 August 1998. Quay West 107.4 was originally launched in July 2001 as BCRfm, before both BCR and Quay West 100.8/102.4 were bought by Choice Media Group. BCRfm was then renamed Quay West 107.4. 102.4 & 100.8 Quaywest 102.4 was originally conceived by an Independent Local Radio presenter Keri Jones, who ran the first Restricted Service Licence (RSL) in 1995. Sedgemoor
Sedgemoor is a low-lying area of land in Somerset, England. It lies close to sea level south of the Polden Hills, historically largely marsh (or "moor" in its older sense). The eastern part is known as King's Sedgemoor, and the western part West Sedgemoor. Sedgemoor is part of the area now known as the Somerset Levels and Moors. Historically the area was known as the site of the Battle of Sedgemoor. Sedgemoor has given its name to a local government district formed on 1 April 1974, under the Local Government Act 1972, by a merger of the municipal borough of Bridgwater, the Burnham-on-Sea urban district, Bridgwater Rural District and part of Axbridge Rural District. The district covers a larger area than the historical Sedgemoor, extending north of the Polden Hills across the Somerset Levels and Moors to the Mendip Hills. Line-of-sight Propagation
Line-of-sight propagation is a characteristic of electromagnetic radiation or acoustic wave propagation which means waves travel in a direct path from the source to the receiver. Electromagnetic transmission includes light emissions traveling in a straight line. The rays or waves may be diffracted, refracted, reflected, or absorbed by the atmosphere and obstructions with material and generally cannot travel over the horizon or behind obstacles. In contrast to line-of-sight propagation, at low frequency (below approximately 3 MHz) due to diffraction, radio waves can travel as ground waves, which follow the contour of the Earth. This enables AM radio stations to transmit beyond the horizon. Additionally, frequencies in the shortwave bands between approximately 1 and 30 MHz, can be refracted back to Earth by the ionosphere, called skywave or "skip" propagation, thus giving radio transmissions in this range a potentially global reach. Total Star was the brand name of a radio station based in Cheltenham broadcasting in Gloucestershire owned by Celador. It was the licence holder for the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury licence issued by Ofcom. Total Star's final day of broadcasting was Sunday 14 April 2013. Owners Celador launched the Cheltenham and North Gloucestershire version of "The Breeze (radio network), The Breeze" on Monday 15 April 2013. Total Star has now since returned to Gloucestershire on 1 October 2017 broadcasting on Digital audio broadcasting, DAB across Gloucestershire. 2011 changes The Total Star network reverted to operating as a single station in 2011 as a result of changes being made to the network and stations. 3TR FM (Three Towns Radio) was a radio station based in the ancient market town of Warminster, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. It broadcast on 107.5 FM to the West Wiltshire, East Somerset and surrounding area, and online via Internet streaming. It was formerly known as Pride FM until a name change took place shortly after the licence was awarded. Bath FM was a local independent radio station based at the former Weston railway station in Bath, England. The station was launched in November 1999 and closed on 24 March 2010. The station broadcast to an area with a population of 104,000. In September 2008, RAJAR figures gave the station a weekly audience reach of 14% and an audience share of 2.7% In December 2008, after the acquisition by South West Radio Ltd, listening figures increased to an audience reach of 15% and an audience share of 3.4%. Brunel FM
Sam FM Swindon was a commercial radio station based in Swindon, England, broadcasting on the 107.7 FM frequency. The station was formed by The Local Radio Company, who wanted to create a local radio rival to GWR FM (now Heart). It started in 2006 as Brunel FM. It would eventually be owned by One Gold Radio Ltd who would rename it to Total Star Swindon, and then More Radio a few years later. Celador would purchase More Radio in 2012 and convert it into Jack FM Swindon. It would then later be re-branded to SamFM Swindon. Due to financial issues and budget cuts at Celador, SamFM Swindon was merged into the Bristol sister station of the same name.
