The Viking Age () was the period during the Middle Ages when Norsemen known as Vikings undertook large-scale raiding, colonizing, conquest, and trading throughout Europe and reached North America. It followed the Migration Period and the Germanic Iron Age. Børge Thorup (born 4 October 1943) is a Danish former international football player, who played as a defender. His career spanned from 1962 to 1974 and he both started and ended his career, at a time when the Danish league was amateur-only, with Brønshøj Boldklub. Between 1966 and 1973 he took his game abroad and played professionally for Morton (2 spells), Crystal Palace and Clydebank. Thorup signed for Crystal Palace in March 1969, but having made only one appearance (as a substitute) in December, returned to Morton before the end of the season. Jess Thorup
Jess Thorup (born 21 February 1970) is a Danish professional football manager and former player, who most recently managed Danish Superliga club FC Copenhagen. Playing career Thorup progressed through the youth academy of Odense Boldklub (OB). He made his professional debut for the club in 1989 and won the Danish league title the same year. In both 1991 and 1993, Thorup was also part of the team winning the Danish Cup. In 1996, he moved to Germany and joined KFC Uerdingen 05, who competed in the 2. Bundesliga. After just three goals in 39 league games, he moved to Austrian football halfway through the 1997–98 season, where he joined FC Tirol Innsbruck. Kirsten Thorup is a Danish author. Background and education Kirsten Thorup was born in Gelsted, Funen, Denmark in 1942. After a brief stay in Cambridge as an au pair, she studied English at the University of Copenhagen. She quit university already after a year. Literary works She is the author of three poetry collections, a volume of short stories, and three novels including ''Baby (Danish novel), Baby'' which has been translated into English. She has also written for films, television, and radio. Her novel, ''Den lange sommer'', was published in Denmark in 1979. Kirsten Thorup now lives in Copenhagen. Majken Thorup Toft (born 1 May 1979) is a Danish former swimmer who won a bronze medal in the 50 m breaststroke at the 2004 European Aquatics Championships. Mikkel Thorup (born 1965) is a Danish computer scientist working at University of Copenhagen. He completed his undergraduate education at Technical University of Denmark and his doctoral studies at Oxford University in 1993. From 1993 to 1998, he was at University of Copenhagen and from 1998 to 2013 he was at AT&T Labs-Research in New Jersey. Since 2013 he has been at the University of Copenhagen as a Professor and Head of Center for Efficient Algorithms and Data Structures (EADS). Thorup's main work is in algorithms and data structures. One of his best-known results is a linear-time algorithm for the single-source shortest paths problem in undirected graphs (Thorup, 1999). With Mihai Pătraşcu he has shown that simple tabulation hashing schemes achieve the same or similar performance criteria as hash families that have higher independence in worst case, while permitting speedier implementations. Peter Thorup
Peter Eiberg Thorup (14 December 1948 – 3 August 2007) was a Danish guitarist, singer, composer and record producer. He was one of the most important blues musicians in Denmark, and he was known outside his own country, when in the late 1960s he met Alexis Korner and the two formed the bands New Church, The Beefeaters, CCS, and later Snape. Career Thorup played at the age of 18 in the Danish band, Beefeaters, and he met Korner on his concert tour in Scandinavia. They formed New Church, and then in 1970 CCS around Korner and Thorup, the rest of the line-up was rather loose and depended on the availability in the schedules of many musicians. Frequent performers within the band included Tony Carr ( drums), trumpeter Harold Beckett, Herbie Flowers on bass guitar, Henry Lowther (trumpet) and Harold McNair with woodwind instruments. Mark "Thurop" Ashton Van Orman (born April 26, 1976) is an American cartoonist, animator, voice actor, television writer, producer and director best known for being the creator of Cartoon Network's ''The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack'', in which he voices the title character.
