Alba Torrens
Alba Torrens Salom (born 30 August 1989) is a Spanish female basketball player at the small forward position who plays for UMMC Ekaterinburg. Winner of six EuroLeague titles with three clubs and eight medals with the Spanish senior team, she is considered one of the best European players of the 2010s. After the February 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, she left the Russian team UMMC Ekaterinburg. Club career Torrens started playing basketball in clubs in her native Balearic Islands before moving in 2003 to Segle XXI, where young talents are developed. Luis Alfonso Torrens Sáez (born May 2, 1996) is a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher in the Chicago Cubs organization. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners. William McCullagh Torrens
William Torrens McCullagh Torrens (13 October 1813 – 26 April 1894) was an Irish Liberal politician, who sat in the House of Commons for English constituencies variously between 1848 and 1885. Torrens was the son of James McCullagh of Greenfield, Dublin, and his wife Jane Torrens, daughter of Andrew Torrens of Dublin. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. In 1835 he was Assistant Commissioner of the Irish Poor Inquiry and was called to the bar in Ireland in 1836. He was an original member of the Anti-Corn Law League founded in 1838. In 1846 he was private secretary to Henry Labouchere when he was Chief Secretary for Ireland. Torrens stood for parliament unsuccessfully at Dundalk in 1847 but was seated as Member of Parliament on petition in March 1848. He held the seat until 1852 when he stood unsuccessfully for Yarmouth. Robert "Roy" Torrens OBE (17 May 1948 – 23 January 2021) was an Irish cricketer, coach and manager of the Ireland cricket team between 2004 and 2016. He was also a footballer having won three amateur caps for the Northern Ireland squad. Career Torrens was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He made his debut for Ireland on 20 July 1966 against Middlesex. He represented Ireland in cricket 30 times, including six first-class appearances between 1966 and 1984, in which he took 26 wickets at the excellent average of 15.46. Overall, he took 77 wickets at an average of 25.66 with career best figures of 7/40 against Scotland in 1974 where Ireland bowled out Scotland for just 91. Robert Torrens (1780 – 27 May 1864) was a Royal Marines officer, political economist, part-owner of the influential ''Globe'' newspaper, and a prolific writer. He also chaired the board of the London-based South Australian Colonisation Commission created by the ''South Australia Act 1834'' to oversee the new colony of South Australia, before the colony went bankrupt and he was sacked in 1841. He was chiefly known for championing the cause for emigration to the new colony, and his name lives on in Adelaide's main river, the Torrens, the suburb of Torrensville and a few other places.
