Tormentor (band)
Tormentor is a Hungarian black metal band formed in 1986 in Budapest. They recorded their first album, ''Anno Domini'', in 1988, but were unable to release it until the end of communism. The album reached Norway through the tape-trading community. Following the suicide of Per Ohlin, Mayhem invited Attila Csihar from Tormentor to join the band; he was to perform the vocals on ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas''. Tormentor split up in 1991. After a long break they reformed and released the more experimental ''Recipe Ferrum'' through Avantgarde Music in 2001, going on a long indefinite hiatus afterwards. Reunion In 2017, Tormentor reunited after several years to re-emerge on the stage for a highly publicized reunion show on 21 April 2018, in Budapest, followed by an appearance at the Brutal Assault in Josefov, Czech Republic and thBeyond the Gates festivalin Bergen, Norway, with later performances at festivals in France and Canada to cap off the year. Attila Csihar (; born 29 March 1971), also sometimes known as Void, is a Hungarian extreme metal vocalist, best known for his vocal work in Norwegian black metal band Mayhem and American drone-doom project Sunn O))). Author Ian Christe describes his vocals as "operatic". Biography His music career began in 1985 with the Hungarian metal band Tormentor, which reached cult status in black metal circles with their first album, ''Anno Domini'' (1988). Communist rule in the People's Republic of Hungary came to an end in 1989 by a peaceful transition to a democratic system. After the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 was suppressed by Soviet forces, Hungary remained a communist country. As the Soviet Union weakened at the end of the 1980s, the Eastern bloc disintegrated. Mayhem (band)
Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in Langhus in 1984. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem's early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") by former member Varg Vikernes ("Count Grishnackh") of Burzum. ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' is the first studio album by Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Songwriting began in 1987, but due to the suicide of vocalist Per "Dead" Ohlin and the murder of guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the album's release was delayed until May 1994. ''De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas'' is widely considered one of the most influential black metal albums of all time. It is the band's only studio album to feature Aarseth and Varg "Count Grishnackh" Vikernes. Avantgarde Music is an Italian record label, formed as a continuation of Obscure Plasma Records, focusing on black and doom metal artists. The label had a sub-label called Wounded Love Records, which has released albums by Dolorian and Taake. Charles Hedger
Charles Edward Alexander Hedger (born 18 September 1980) is a British guitarist who is known for his stint in the extreme metal band Cradle of Filth and his work with Imperial Vengeance. He currently plays with Norwegian black metal band Mayhem under the alias Ghul. In the past he also performed live on stage with bands like Tormentor and Shining, and continues to do so occasionally. Early life Hedger showed musical interest from an early age. When he was 13, his brother gave him a copy of a tape from a local band that some of his friends were in, the demo tape was called '' The Principle of Evil Made Flesh'', from an at the time fledgling British heavy metal band, Cradle of Filth.
