Pain is a distressing feeling often caused by intense or damaging stimuli. ''Torment'' is the second novel in the ''Fallen'' series written by Lauren Kate. It is a young adult, fantasy, paranormal romance published in 2010 under Delacorte Press. It continues the story of Lucinda Price, who is cursed by being reincarnated every 17 years after involving herself in a romantic relationship with a fallen angel named Daniel. Something seems to be different during this lifetime, and Daniel is determined to keep Luce safe from hostile forces while he teams up with other angels and demons in an eighteen-day long truce. He installs Luce at the prestigious Shoreline school in Northern California, where she meets a number of nephilim students who have yet to choose between good and evil. Mount Torment is a high peak in the North Cascades of Washington in the United States. It is located approximately northeast of the city of Everett. First ascended on August 23, 1946, its name originates from the first ascent party, because of "the torture of a hot day with only one orange for quenching thirst." Since then, Mount Torment has gained popularity because of the ''Torment-Forbidden Traverse'' to neighboring Forbidden Peak, an exposed alpine route. ''The Torment'' is the debut studio album by the British Christian thrash metal band Seventh Angel, released on Music for Nations in 1990. The album established the band as "one of England's leading thrash metal bands" by ''The Daily Telegraph''. In 2010, ''HM Magazine'' ranked it number 51 on the Top 100 Christian Metal Albums of All Time list. ''Better Angel'' is a novel by Forman Brown first published in 1933 under the pseudonym Richard Meeker. It was republished as ''Torment'' in 1951. It is an early novel which describes a gay lifestyle without condemning it. Christopher Carey called it "the first homosexual novel with a truly happy ending". The novel's title references Shakespeare's Sonnet 144: "the better angel is a man right fair", a poem which has been read as having a Sonnet 144#Homoeroticism in Sonnet 144, homosexual subtext.
