Torero
A bullfighter (or matador) is a performer in the activity of bullfighting. ''Torero'' () or ''toureiro'' (), both from Latin ''taurarius'', are the Spanish and Portuguese words for bullfighter and describe all the performers in the activity of bullfighting as practised in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Peru, France, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and other countries influenced by Portuguese and Spanish culture. The main performer and leader of the entourage in a bullfight, and who finally kills the bull, is addressed as ''maestro'' (master), or with the formal title ''matador de toros'' (killer of bulls). The other bullfighters in the entourage are called ''subalternos'' and their suits are embroidered in silver as opposed to the matador's gold. The Toreador
''The Toreador'' is an Edwardian musical comedy in two acts by James T. Tanner and Harry Nicholls, with lyrics by Adrian Ross and Percy Greenbank and music by Ivan Caryll and Lionel Monckton. It opened at the Gaiety Theatre in London, managed by George Edwardes, on 17 June 1901 and ran for an extremely successful 675 performances. It starred Marie Studholme, Gertie Millar, Harry Grattan, Edmund Payne, George Grossmith, Jr. and the young Sidney Bracy. Gabrielle Ray later joined the cast. The show also enjoyed Broadway runs in 1902 and 1904 and toured internationally. Key songs include "Captivating Cora", "I'm Romantic", "When I Marry Amelia", "Keep Off the Grass", and "Archie". The Toreador Song is the popular name for the aria "" ("I toast you"), from the French opera ''Carmen'', composed by Georges Bizet to a libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. It is sung by the bullfighter (French: '' toréador'') Escamillo as he enters in act 2 and describes various situations in the bullring, the cheering of the crowds and the fame that comes with victory. The refrain, "", forms the middle part of the prelude to act 1 of ''Carmen''. Music The bass-baritone couplet has a vocal range from B2 to F4 and a tessitura from C3 to E4. Its time signature is common time (4/4), its key is F minor with the refrain in F major. The tempo indication is ''allegro molto moderato'', =108. ''The Daily Toreador'', also known as ''The DT'', is the student newspaper of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The newspaper was first published in 1925 as ''The Toreador'' and later changed its name to ''The University Daily'' before arriving at the current name in 2005. All content for ''The DT'' is produced by a staff around 40 members including editors, reporters and photographers. ''The Hallucinogenic Toreador'' (Spanish: El Torero Alucinógeno) is a 1969–1970 multi-leveled oil painting by Salvador Dalí which employs the canons of his particular interpretation of surrealist thought. It is currently being exhibited at the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. In ''The Hallucinogenic Toreador'' Dalí transmits his wife's dislike for bullfighting by combining symbolism, optical illusions, and estranging yet familiar motifs. Apocalyptica is a Finnish symphonic metal band from Helsinki, formed in 1993. The band is composed of classically trained cellists Eicca Toppinen, Paavo Lötjönen, and Perttu Kivilaakso, and jazz drummer Mikko Sirén. Originally a classical-style Metallica tribute band, the band eventually adopted a neoclassical metal style without the use of conventional guitars and bass. Monterey High School is a public high school in the western United States, located in Monterey, California. It is the oldest of the four high schools overseen by the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. History In 1905, Monterey High School was combined with Del Monte Technical School to form Monterey Union High School. The wooden three-story building was destroyed by fire and a new school building was constructed on the current site by 1915.
